Structural grammar

For an eventual structural and functional grammar of behavior many types of hidden patterns must be considered. Human behavior is here viewed as the performance of members of the proposed T-pattern family. These are particular types of repeated hierar-chical/syntactic intra- and interindividual real-time patterns describing related aspects of the temporal organization of verbal and/or nonverbal behavior. Many researchers have recognized the importance of having an unambiguous grammar for chemical notation, but they have mainly applied WLN [8] to on-line compound search [9] and structural summary (identification of common structural features) [10]. Johns and Clare point out that it is a linguistic rather than merely a symbolic notation. This means that the symbols are represented and manipulated in well defined structures. This section relies on the unambiguousness of WLN to recognize parent molecules while Section 5 relies on the WLN rules to actually manipulate symbol structures.

Each tip has explanatory notes, examples, exercises, and an answer key, making self-study easy. Appendix B repeats, for easy reference and accessibility, the move structures included in the textbook. 

Do not worry about spelling, grammar, punctuation, or structure. 

As stated previously, writing the business plan is an extremely important part of business planning. The business plan should be informative and balanced in its presentation of the proposal. The document should be written with a specific audience in mind (the financial decision maker). It should be both easy to read and easy to understand and therefore must possess proper organization, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure. 

Don t get put off by the third requirement. Scorers know you have just 25 minutes to write your essay, so they don t expect perfect grammar and punctuation (although it certainly won t hurt ). They will look for word choices that reflect a strong vocabulary (avoid cliches and slang), variety in sentence structure, and logical development of ideas. We ll go into greater detail about essay specifics in Chapter 3. 

These multiple-choice questions are designed to test your knowledge of grammar and usage. Let s take a closer look at how they are structured, the types of errors you re most likely to encounter, and how best to approach Identifying Sentence Errors. At the end of this section, we ve included ten practice questions (answers are at the end of the chapter). 

Find the best sentence using the 3C s. From the choices that remain, select the one that is correct (no grammar or usage errors or lapses in logic), clear (no ambiguity or tangled sentence structure), and concise (no unnecessary wordiness). 

A 6 essay stands out because of its thinking it has a strong point of view, which is developed in an organized, focused manner. Examples and evidence are used to support the point of view. There may be a few errors in grammar, usage, and/or mechanics, but word choice (vocabulary) and structure (varied sentences) show mastery of language and writing skills. 

This essay is inconsistent. While some elements may be adequate, such as demonstration of critical thinking skills or use of appropriate examples, others are weak. It may lose focus and provide evidence for some points but not others. There will be little or no variety in sentence structure, and a number of errors in spelling, grammar, and punctuation. 

This essay will be incoherent, with no clear position taken or supported. It will be disorganized, with serious errors in vocabulary, sentence structure, grammar, and mechanics. These errors will prevent the reader from understanding the essay. 

If s been said already that a few small grammar or mechanics errors will be overlooked. However, you probably noticed when reading the scoring rubric that sentence variety is important to your reader. Don t use too many short, choppy sentences vary your sentence structure so that your reading is interesting and flows easily. 

Contains a general organizational plan and focus, with some unity and flow of ideas Demonstrates a sufficient but inconsistent command of language, with mostly appropriate word choice and some variation in sentence structure Contains some errors in grammar, usage, and mechanics... 

This essay score a 3. There is a loose organizational structure, and the writer does take a stand, but it is weakened by a number of disclaimers, such as I think it can probably buy and In my opinion. Remember, a direct, confident approach is best. Many points are made for which there is no evidence or other types of support (what is the connection between health and slums, for example ). Errors in grammar and spelling are plentiful, and include a sentence fragment, a run-on sentence, and confused words (their/they re, your/you re). The conclusion is one sentence at the end of the last paragraph, and while it does generally reiterate the thesis, it is trite, has a weakening disclaimer, and contains a comma splice.
