Unfortunately, unknown to the authors of the Screening Hypothesis to explain NP diversity, the term Screening Hypothesis was used by educationalists to postulate that education acted as a filter to screen those that can be trained. That version of the terminology currently wins a Google search. 

The other question that needs to be answered in these days of the Internet is why a book is even necessary when so much information can be gleaned by simple use of a keyboard. In part, this is exactly why a textbook is needed. There is a real danger of students getting information overload, with so much information being readily available that they are unable to digest and assimilate it. For example, a recent Google search for chitosan stability achieved over 22,000 hits, most of which were useless since, for some reason, they were connected with cosmetic applications. Try searching under the term emulsions and be prepared for an astronomical response ...

Project Prospect endeavors to use and build acceptance of standards for chemical information by using the International Chemical Identifiers (InChls) created by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) as a way to provide a nonproprietary way to make chemical information more machine-readable. To illustrate the potential of this in the simplest way, an InChl for benzene (i.e., InChI=l/ C6H6/cl-2-4-6-5-3-l/hl-6H) was pasted into a Google search bar (www.google. com), this resulted in 37 hits in the fall of 2007 and over 1,000 hits 6 months later in the spring of 2008. The top hits were directed at the IUPAC Gold Book as shown in Figure 1.1.

Cirrhosis of the liver is one of the most well-known adverse effects of chronic alcohol abuse. The cholesterol-lowering, life-prolonging statin drugs must be monitored routinely for hepatotoxicity and rhabdomyolosis. A Google search on the terms statins, hepatotoxicity, and review produced over 22,000 hits indicating this is a very active field of interest. 

Go to http //chemistry.brookscole.com/skoogfac/. From the Chapter Resources menu, choose Web Works. Locate the Chapter 22 section, and click on the link to Bioanalytical Systems. Investigate the electrochemical instruments produced by this instrument company. In particular, describe the features and specifications of the cell for bulk electrolysis. Use the Google search engine to find companies that make coulometers. Compare the features of two instruments from two different instrument companies. 

Do a Google search to find the Laboratory for Spectrochemistry at Indiana University. Find a list of research projects being done in this laboratory on plasma mass spectrometry. Click on one of the projects dealing with time-of-flight mass spectrometry. Describe in detail the purpose of the project, the instrumentation used, and any results obtained. 

As background for the preparation of this article, a Google search of polybutadiene (PB) was made and 24,700 hits were generated. The addition of other terms to the quoted search reduced the number of hits to 1668 for structural features, 660 for modifications, 525 for uses of blends, and 52 for polymerization variations. This still is an impressive and formidable number of potential references that show the significant activity and utilization of PB. This does not include styrene/butadiene (BD)/styrene triblock and random copolymers (SBR), that are separate subjects and will not be considered. The reason for the plethora of literature available on PB is derived from a combination of factors. Primarily the base monomer BD is abundant, inexpensive, and can be converted readily to a variety of different reactive polymeric structures. 

Below the elements, I have listed the number of hydrides formed by each of them. (Because this table is taken from my chemistry notes of a half-century ago, the numbers for carbon probably need updating. A Google search gives thousands, vast, and near infinite as the number of hydrocarbons.) Whatever the current number - which of course does not count the numerous compounds of carbon with oxygen or nitrogen - it is clear that carbon greatly exceeds any atom, other than hydrogen, in the number of different molecules it can make.

CAM therapies are extremely popular. A Google search (4 February 2008) of cough/altemative medicine resulted in 421,000 hits and common cold/altemative medicine generated 325,000 hits. A scan of seven lay books on complementary medicine showed that, among them, they recommended 96 different treatments for...

For installation just go to Google Search Engine and type Tanagra download . Click on Setup under Reference Column of the table. Use the software for performing various tasks. 

A Google search can be used to identity many MSDSs for a chemical, too. While these first seem like reliable sources, you should know that the federal law that mandates their existence does not require that they be accurate Furthermore, since MSDSs are both technical and legal documents (because they carry liability for their authors) some comments about the hazards of chemicals are overstated or too vague to be useful. As with Wikipedia, simple information about a chemical is likely to be correct but some safety information will not be as usefiil as you might wish it would be. Reading MSDSs will be discussed more in Section 3.2.3. Table 3.2.2.1 identifies a handful of web sites that lead to good MSDS collections. 

Depleted uranium is probably one of the chanical substances with the worst public relations record, as a very cursory Google search shows (all accessed on March 8, 2014). Some of the titles Depleted uranium as malicious as Syrian chemical weapons. Depleted uranium contamination is still spreading in Iraq, Depleted uranium The real dirty bombs, and Depleted uranium—/ar worse than 9/11 Depleted uranium dust—public health disaster for the people of Iraq and Afghanistan, are just a few examples. However, the evidence-based scientific literature lends little support to these gloomy headlines.

Many packages have been developed for finite element algorithms. In fact, a Google search of best finite element package revealed more than fifty packages available with names ranging from ALGOR to Zebulon.
