Good practice operative protection

Since carbon fiber is electrically conductive, it is good practice for processors working with carbon fiber, to have designated work areas set aside, so that all electrics can be adequately protected from carbon liber fly and an efficient air filtration system built into the workplace to safeguard operatives. Oxidized PAN fiber is not electrically conductive, however, and does not have these problems. 

The actions of contract employees can have an adverse impact on the safety of employees at the site. Where contract employees and your own employees are intermingled, any unsafe practices or conditions of contract employees can jeopardize your own employees. But even if contract employees are removed somewhat from your normal operations, your employees will benefit from knowing that you insist on good safety practices and protection for every employee at your worksite. Hiring contractors is another issue. The bottom line is that you need to treat contractors as you would your own employees. You will need to check with the legal department to make sure that you understand the contractual requirements. 

The CA should ensure that safety reports submitted under the COMAH Regulations contain information to demonstrate that good practice in human and organisational design, operation, maintenance and testing Is Implemented as rigorously as for control and environmental protection engineering systems.

To cover these factors, it is accepted that a battery should not be regularly discharged by more than about 80% of its normal capacity. This is also good battery operating practice to protect it against overdischarge and general abuse. 

Many accidents occur because the operator or maintenance person does not understand the hazards involved or has not been instructed on the precautions to be taken. The policy document should identify the main hazards within the company with advice on which rules must be obeyed while carrying out a hazardous task. General rules should also be included to cover items such as untidy work areas, replacement of guards, the use of protective cloth-ing/equipment where appropriate, safe working practices in handling goods and materials, etc. It is essential that on the introduction of new products, processes, operations or plant and equipment that any hazards associated with these are brought to the attention of all concerned.
