Phospholipids are most actively employed in the creation of somatic and generative production. Gonad maturation is accompanied by a sharp increase in the phospholipid concentration of the liver and blood (Shchepkin, 1972), indicating enhanced synthesis and transport into the gonads. The phospholipid concentration is greater in the gonads than in somatic tissues.

Several steps in the reproductive process are neurohormone regulated, pheromone synthesis-release, ovulation, oviposition, and gonad maturation might also be considered as neuroendocrine-dependent processes susceptible to manipulation for reproductive disruption. 

There are many interacting external (temperature, salinity, food availability) and internal factors, including species, sex, physiological status (gonad maturity, condition, age), that determine and affect the lipid content and composition of aquatic organisms. The (n-3) PUFA are essential for the normal development of embryos, larvae, and the nervous system, and for the proper functioning of the sense organs of marine and freshwater fish. 

Possible solutions - Crustacean species employ various reproductive strategies in terms of the temporal relationship between gonad maturation, mating, and spawning, and these reproductive stages are coordinated with the molt cycle in a variety of ways (reviewed by Raviv et al. 2008). Can chemical cues be one of the inputs to the female sensory system that regulate any of these stages of a reproductive cycle ...
