The structure of the adsorbed ion coordination shell is determined by the competition between the water-ion and the metal-ion interactions, and by the constraints imposed on the water by the metal surface. This structure can be characterized by water-ion radial distribution functions and water-ion orientational probability distribution functions. Much is known about this structure from X-ray and neutron scattering measurements performed in bulk solutions, and these are generally in agreement with computer simulations. The goal of molecular dynamics simulations of ions at the metal/water interface has been to examine to what degree the structure of the ion solvation shell is modified at the interface. 

The increased attention paid to the concept of traceability and its implementation in the world of chemical measurements has been one of the major goals of metrological activity in recent years. In Romania traceability of chemical measurement has been closely connected with the accreditation of analytical chemistry laboratories. However, this concept has only recently been adopted in this country for clinical measurements. Within this framework an attempt is made to review what traceability means in terms of clinical measurements and what is now being done by the Romanian National Institute of Metrology (INM) to develop the principles of traceability in spectrophotometrical measurements performed in clinical chemistry laboratories. 

Safety results are determined by an organization s culture its values, beliefs, legends, goals, emphases, performance measures, and its sense of responsibility to its employees, to its customers, and to its community. 

The question to what extent this goal can be attained has been discussed repeatedly. " Measurements performed in tandem machines with smaller discrimination or in tandem machines of longitudinal type gave results that indicated a considerable transfer of translational energy during the charge-exchange process. The problem was reviewed earlier and therefore only one example will be presented here which illustrates the difference between different machines. 

Manuele confirms the notion that behaviors are determined by the culture. He further believes, a company must have established—as part of its culture—that employees are expected to, and have responsibility to, report risky behavioral situations to management. Furthermore, management must have established through its actions, that such references will receive proper consideration. If this is not the case, the behavioral problem is principally one of culture, for which action at the first-line level of employment will have limited success (1998, p. 33).

Zeta potential is a fundamental parameter for modelling and characterizing electrokinetic flows in a variety of microfluidics and Lab-on-a-Chip devices. Because the zeta potential depends on so many factors (pH, concentration, liquid, surface etc.) more measurements are required for a variety of surface-liquid combinations particularly, biological and biochemical fluids. Since measurements can vary greatly between methods and experiments, multiple tests should be employed to accurately determine the zeta potential. In addition, measurements performed using multiple techniques can be corroborated which will reduce errors between results. The ultimate goal is to develop an accurate database of zeta potential measurements for various solid-liquid interfaces, however this will most likely require the development of new theoretical models and experimental methods to increase the accuracy and throughput of current devices.

The contribution of each structure, system or component to the facihty hazard can be measured through the probabilistic concept of the performance goal. The performance goal for a structure, system or component in relation to a specific external event is defined as the probability of failure (Pp) of the structure, system or component to perform its required safety function in the case of that external event. The performance goal for an external event may be lower than the performance goal for internal accidents. 

As a consequence, most of the raw measurements performed on food samples imply a complex instrumental response, formed by the contributions of many different substances. Such a mixed multicomponent problem is the natural field for multivariate curve resolution (MCR) methods, the goal of which is unmixing a complex raw measurement into the basic qualitative and quantitative responses linked to each one of the compounds in the sample analysed.
