GMOs

Recently a biosensor as new airalytical tool for GMO (genetic modified organism) detection has been reported. [Pg.15]

Screen-printed gold electrodes were, firstly, modified with a mixed monolayer of a 25-mer thiol-tethered DNA probe and a spacer thiol, 6-mercapto-1 -hexanol (MCH). The DNA probe sequence was internal to the sequence of the 35S promoter, which sequence is inserted in the genome of GMOs regulating tire transgene expression. [Pg.15]

Fig. 4 shows the efficiency of the set of reflection gratings delivered with the Gemini Multiobject Spectrograph (GMOS) for Gemini-North (Section 2.3). [Pg.159]

Table 1. Details of gratings appearing in Fig. 9. The names in parenthesis refer to the actual gratings delivered with GMOS-N (except for R150 which is slightly different) is the vertex angle of the immersed prism if present. Table 1. On the GM debate and biosafety research, a review of results performed under the European Commission supervision ( EC-sponsored Research on Safety of Genetically Modified Organisms , edited by C. Kessler and I. Economidis) is available also online at the EU-website http //europa.eu.int/ comm/research/quality-of-life/gmo/. An update on current research in food safety, nutrition and food-related disease might be found in the websites of the World Health Organization, http //www.who.int/fsf/GMfood/index.htm, and of the UK Food Standards Agency, http //www.foodstandards.gov.uk/. [Pg.211]

Initial efforts by workers at the Institute for Reference Materials and Measurement (IRMM), Geel, Belgium, to produce certified reference materials for GMOs have demonstrated that the provision of suitable reference materials is not easy and that together with the development of suitable analytical methods there are many challenges to be solved ahead. The first two examples produced jointly by the IRMM in Belgium and Fluka Chemie AG in Switzerland were based on Round-Up Ready Soya and BT 176 Maize. The reference materials are needed to validate EU and Swiss regulations which permit non-GMO products to be contaminated by up to 1 % GMO material and still be accepted. [Pg.171]

Pesticide immunoassays have been developed for a variety of pesticides and, more recently, GMOs, and have been used for matrices such as surface water, groundwater, runoff water, soil, sediment, crops, milk, meat, eggs, grain, urine and blood. ° Table 9 is a partial list of immunoassays for chemical pesticides developed since 1995 and includes notations on the matrices studied. A fairly comprehensive list of pesticide immunoassays developed prior to 1994 was provided by Gee et al2 ... [Pg.648]
