Glyburide

Glyburide may be given after pancreas transplantation in patients with impaired glucose tolerance. [Pg.101]

Glyburide. Glyburide or l-[ [2-(5-chloro-(9-anisamido)ethyl]phenyl]sulfonyl]-3-cyclohexylurea, mol wt 494.00, forms crystals from methanol, mp 169—170°C. Its piC is 5.3 and it is sparingly soluble in water and soluble in the usual organic solvents. [Pg.342]

The incidence of serious side effects with glyburide, sold as DiaBeta and Micronase, is low. Gastrointestinal disturbances develop in 1.8% of patients. Skin rashes occur in 1.5% of patients and may disappear with continued use. [Pg.342]

Finally, attachment of a rather complex side chain to the para position of the benzene ring on the sulfonamide leads to the very potent, long-acting oral antidiabetic agent, glyburide (215). Preparation of this compound starts with the chlorosul-fonation of the acetamide of 3-phenethylamine (209). The resulting sulfonyl chloride (210) is then converted to the sulfonamide (211) and deacylated (212). Reaction with the salicylic acid derivative, 213, in the presence of carbodiimide affords the amide, 214. Condensation of that with cyclohexylisocyanate affords glyburide (215). ... [Pg.139]

A slightly different use of accurate mass measurement in drug metabolism studies has been reported [31]. In this investigation, the accurate masses of the ions derived from Glyburide (Figure 5.48) and some of its metabolites were used to calculate the difference in mass, and thus the elemental composition, between certain of the ions observed in the spectra of the various compounds. [Pg.260]

The patient is taking glyburide for non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus and has been treated in the past for peptic ulcer disease with ranitidine and omeprazole. He has a history of allergy to various types of pollen but reports no allergies to drugs. He reports moderate consumption of alcohol and smoking 2 packs of cigarettes per day. [Pg.1130]
