Gluing method

The characteristics of QCM sensors containing mono- or multilayered DNA probe constructed by direct chemical bonding, avidin-biotin interaction or electrostatic adsorption on polyelectrolyte films were compared by Zhou et al. [60]. The use of the polyethyleneimine adhesion, glutaraldehyde cross-linking (PEI-Glu) method to immobilize hepatitis B virus DNA onto gold QCM quartz crystals, enabling the sensor to be regenerated five times, was reported by Hu and co-workers [61],... [Pg.392]

Phosphoric acid-doped polybenzimidazole (PA-PBl) membrane is the most common type for HT-PEMFCs. It was also introduced in the catalyst layer as an ionomer to improve proton conductivity [8, 80-83]. Similar to die apphcation of Nafion ionomer in the catalyst layer, polybenzimidazole (PBl) solution was incorporated into the catalyst layer by an impregnation method (die electrode was soaked in a PBI solution), by a gluing method (the PBl membrane was coated by PBI solution), or by a brushing method (the PBl solution was brushed onto the electrode) [80]. [Pg.877]

In this preliminary work we have investigated composite objects with a simple geometry. In future work the proposed approach will be applied to more complicated objects, in particular glued structures. Since we for such objects expect to have a less distinct back wall echo, we have reason to believe that the preprocessing method that was used in this work has to be somewhat modified. [Pg.893]

The chemical reaction catalyzed by triosephosphate isomerase (TIM) was the first application of the QM-MM method in CHARMM to the smdy of enzyme catalysis [26]. The study calculated an energy pathway for the reaction in the enzyme and decomposed the energetics into specific contributions from each of the residues of the enzyme. TIM catalyzes the interconversion of dihydroxyacetone phosphate (DHAP) and D-glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate (GAP) as part of the glycolytic pathway. Extensive experimental studies have been performed on TIM, and it has been proposed that Glu-165 acts as a base for deprotonation of DHAP and that His-95 acts as an acid to protonate the carbonyl oxygen of DHAP, forming an enediolate (see Fig. 3) [58]. [Pg.228]

Because gluing of wood members was a very common method of fabricating aircraft during this time, there are innumerable examples. One unusual and interesting example, as mentioned above, is the de Havilland Mo.squito of 1940. In many respects the Mosquito was a bridge between the old world of wood aircraft and the increasingly predominant world of aluminum aircraft (Fig. 2). [Pg.1135]

A typical method of preparation of 5- and 7-ply plywood panels is by pressing at room temperature and the simultaneous use of a one-step exothermic heat gluing/ monomer curing technique. Prior to monomer impregnation, all veneer samples were conditioned at room temperature. The assembly was compressed to 1.03 MPa (150 psi) between steel plates in a hydraulic press, and the steel plates fastened with a pair of bolts and nuts at both ends. [Pg.581]

Figure 1. Effect of 1% (w/v) pectin (pect), 1% galactose (gal), and of the simultaneous presence of 2% glucose (glu) on the production of extracellular polygalacturonase activity. Two-stages cultures were prepared as described under methods. Polygalacturonase was assayed in the culture filtrate as reducing sugar-releasing activity using sodium polypectate as a substrate. Since then, this method has been extensively applied to, for example, the synthesis of 3-0-(2-acetamido-3,4,6-tri-0-acetyl-2-deoxy-/ -D-glu-... [Pg.156]

In order to act as a transducer optode must be attached to the optical fiber. Bulks (>1 mm) of sol-gel matrix can be easily glued to the fiber tip, especially, if the polymer fiber is used39. The smaller optodes can be attached to fiber end by dip-coating method or simply by direct painting of the fiber-tip with a liquid gel. [Pg.361]

Amino acids labeled with DNS-C1 were determined using the Ru(bpy)32+ CL reaction after HPLC separation with a reversed-phase column [104, 105], DNS derivatives are expected to produce intense CL owing to their secondary and tertiary amino groups. The detection limit for DNS-Glu was 0.1 pM (2 pmol/ injection). Although underivatized amino acids could be detected by Ru(bpy)32+ CL, the DNS derivatives showed improved detection limits by three orders of magnitude [105], An approach to convert primary amines to tertiary amines was also reported [106], In this method, divinyl sulfone (DVS) was used for a cycloaddition reaction of primary amines (Fig. 19). The DVS derivatives after HPLC separation were sensitively detected (e.g., detection limits for propylamine and 3-aminopentane were 30 and 1 pmol, respectively). [Pg.420]

As these acetals could be converted into the 4,6-O-ethylidene derivatives on treatment with acid, it was reasoned that use of a cyclic vinyl ether, namely, 3,4-dihydro-2H-pyran, might prevent this second process, thus leading to a more useful method of selective acetalation.338 An equimolar reaction with methyl a-D-glu-copyranoside for 4 days in N,N-dimethylformamide led to utilization of 88% of the glycoside, and the 6-(tetrahydropyran-2-yl) ether constituted —85% of the crude reaction-product. In contrast to the steric control apparent in this instance, reaction of 3,4-dihydro-2H-pyran with the axial and equatorial hydroxyl groups in dl-1,4,5,6-tetra-O-acetyl-mi/o-inositol was completely unselective,339 a fact that has been rationalized310 in terms of the probable mechanism of these reactions. [Pg.71]
