GEAR package

Eqns (16), (20) and (22) were integrated numerically to obtain the separation performance of the one- and two-column processes The GEAR package (13) was used for the integration after determining that it was faster than, say, Runge-Kutta methods For all calculations N 50 and e - 0.40 Dimensionless parameters varied were 8, ph pL Yf and, for the two-column process, H. Combinations of the parameters of 6 and Pr/Pl were chosen to correspond to the me thane-helium system on BPL carbon Adsorption isotherm data for methane at 25°C (14) were represented by... [Pg.207]

The GEAR package expects to be supplied with the differential equations in a user-written subroutine, called DIFFUN. Now we could code the formation terms of the equation above as ... [Pg.342]

The use of DBLOAD results in a speed increase of about 3 times, at least. It removes the bottleneck of the computation from the DIFFUN subroutine to elsewhere in the GEAR package. Hence, when using DELOAD, for a given number of species, extra reactions do not necessary slow the model down, and so one does not have to be so critical in weeding out reactions which one believes to be unimportant. [Pg.343]

Packages exist that use various discretizations in the spatial direction and an integration routine in the time variable. PDECOL uses B-sphnes for the spatial direction and various GEAR methods in time (Ref. 247). PDEPACK and DSS (Ref. 247) use finite differences in the spatial direction and GEARB in time (Ref. 66). REACOL (Ref. 106) uses orthogonal collocation in the radial direction and LSODE in the axial direction, while REACFD uses finite difference in the radial direction both codes are restricted to modeling chemical reactors. [Pg.480]

Available sizes range from shelf areas of 0.4 to 67 m" (4 to 726 ft"). These are available in several manufacturers standards, either as system components or with arrxihary gear as packaged systems. [Pg.1097]

For both the finite difference and collocation methods a set of coupled ordinaiy differential eqiiafions results which are integrated forward in time using the method of hnes. Various software packages implementing Gear s method are popular. [Pg.1529]

The first documented use of dry gas seals in turboexpanders was in 1989. At that time, an ethylene plant in Scotland worked with a dry gas seal manufacturer to retrofit a turboexpander-integral gear-generator package. The partial success of that project was sufficiently encouraging for both user plant and turboexpander manufacturer to undertake a redesign of all three expander stages. Dry face or gas seals were installed at that time. [Pg.349]

The Gear Algorithm [15], based on the Adams formulas, adjusts both the order and mesh size to produce the desired local truncation error. BuUrsch and Sloer method [16, 22] is capable of producing accurate solutions using step sizes that arc much smaller than conventional methods. Packaged Fortran subroutines for both methods are available. [Pg.88]

In air conditioning circles, the tower normally represents the final heat sink in a turnkey package which would include compressors/condensers, pipework, ducting, fans, pumps, control gear, etc. Where consultants and experienced contractors are concerned, the tower specification is well defined and the purchases based upon economics related to efficiency. [Pg.528]

In many applications we consider the yield point of a polymer to be its point of failure. We base this definition on whether the material is still fit for its end use once it has yielded. Thus, if the teeth on a polymer gear wheel yield, they will change shape and may become useless. Alternatively, packaging film may yield, but still maintain its barrier properties and be fit for continued use. [Pg.162]

The best packages for stiff equations (see below) use Gear s backward difference formulas. The formulas of various orders are [Gear, G. W., Numerical Initial Value Problems in Ordinary Differential Equations, Prentice-Hall, Englewood Cliffs, N.J. (1971)]... [Pg.50]

Do you think that daily life would have been easier and colourful without the discovery and varied applications of polymers The use of polymers in the manufacture of plastic buckets, cups and saucers, children s toys, packaging bags, synthetic clothing materials, automobile tyres, gears and seals, electrical Insulating materials and machine parts has completely revolutionised the daily life as well as the industrial scenario. Indeed, the polymers are the backbone of four major Industries viz. plastics, elastomers, fibres and paints and varnishes. [Pg.134]
