An aging population and continued improvements in engine technology and fuel economy may slow U.S. gasoline demand in the early part of the twenty-first century from the 2 percent annual growth rate of the 1990s.

The 1974/75 slump in gasoline demand is over, the 1976 demand Is expected to top 6% while the 1977 demand will return to a more normal 3 to 5%. The question of lead phase-down appears relieved with an EPA postponement, but as a result of the steadily increasing number of vehicles that use unleaded gasoline (about 107o increase annually on the total number of automobiles in the United States) by 1980 some 62% of the total gasoline pool will have to meet no-lead gasoline specification. 

The total annual gasoline demand in the United States is estimated to be 115,000 X 10 gallons. If a 10/90 blend of methanol/gasoline is considered as a gasoline substitute, the total national methanol demand would be 11,500 X 10 gallons. Demand for the State of Missouri, prorated based on population, is 252 X 10 gallons. 

The energy security implications examined are related to the imports of energy, in particular, petroleum and natural gas. The committee examined the impacts on the use of gasoline, impacts that can be expected to translate directly to impacts on the imports of crude oil or petroleum products. Impacts on the use of natural gas were examined. An increase in demand would cause an increase in price, which in turn could increase domestic supply. Thus, it is not clear what fraction of this increase in natural gas use would translate into increases in natural gas imports. However, it is assumed that most of this increase in natural gas use would translate directly into increases in natural gas imports, consistent with projections in Annual Energy Outlook 2003 (EIA, 2003). The committee did not try to quantify other impacts on energy security associated with changes in the... 

With an annual production of over four million tons of diesel fuel and domestic heating oil in addition to two million tons of motor gasoline, the refinery is in a position to almost fulfill local demand.

Total gasoline motorcycles (TGM) sub-model reflects the demands for buying gasoline motorcycles. The newly purchased motorcycles value is the maximum value which between annual motorcycles of demand deducts electric scooters increment and zero. And the annual motorcycle demand value which equals to the total demand for motorcycles deducts the total supply motorcycles. However, the total supply motorcycles consist of the TGM and the total electric scooters. The parameter values and the data sources of the related variables are listed in Table 26.7. 

Other social aspects such as food, meat, fish and paper consumption, the share of Internet users in the population, life expectancy at birth, use of private cars per 100 people, and the annual consumption of motor gasoline and diesel oil are listed in Table 5.1.5 as these aspects are also linked to the energy demand and the standard of living.
