There also are major sources of organic compounds from nature. Methane is a major emission from the natural environment and in non-urban atmospheres concentrations generally range between 1-1.5 ppm (6). The major source of atmospheric methane is the decomposition of organic material in swamps, marshes, and other bodies of water. Natural gas seepage possibly significantly contributes methane to the atmosphere in certain petroleum areas. It is estimated that natural sources of methane are about 1600 X 10 tons annually (7). [Pg.6]

In a very extensive review. Price (1985) suggested that surface bacterial activity can totally obliterate the gases in a microseep. That this is not typically the case has been demonstrated by extensive research over both macroseeps and microseeps (Jones, 1984). However, bacterial activity does probably contribute to the noisy appearance of soil-gas seepage. [Pg.152]

It is a well-established fact that the description of the interaction between coal/rock mass and gas in the gas leak flow system is difficult. Nonetheless, the problem of gas leak flow must be studied for the sake of coal mining safety and gas drainage in the multi-coal-seam. In this study the gas leak flow systems for coupled coal/rock mass deformation and gas seepage in double coal seams are studied with the principle of rock mechanics and coal gas seepage. [Pg.623]

The drawdown and distribution capability was designed to be 4.3 MBO/day for 90 days. Gas seepage and sale or transfer of 69 MBO from the Week Island site, which was decommissioned during 1996, reduced the drawdown capacity to 3.7 MBO/day by the spring of 1998. [Pg.82]
