This catalyst works in a similar manner to NaBHaCN except that it does not suffer from the same potential toxicity that NaBHaCN does. Methanol use would also reduce pubHc exposure to toxic hydrocarbons associated with gasoline and diesel fuel, including ben2ene, 1,3-butadiene, diesel particulates, and polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons. Although pubHc formaldehyde exposures might increase from methanol use in garages and tunnels, methanol use is expected to reduce overall pubHc exposure to toxic air contaminants.

Exposure assessment techniques now attempt to include as many as possible of the locations in which individuals now spend time. The concept involves identification of microenvironments which are important for potential exposure. For example, exposure to CO would include time spent in commuting, parking garages, in residences with gas stoves, as well as time spent outdoors. This approach classifies time spent in these microenvironments and the typical concentrations of CO in these locations. 

Confirm that the HVAC system maintains appropriate pressure relationships to isolate and contain odors and contaminants in mixed use buildings and around special use areas. Examples of special use areas include attached parking garages, loading docks, print shops, smoking lounges, janitorial closets, storage areas, and kitchens.

Fortunately the garage had its own check analysis carried out. This showed that LPG was still present—actually more than 1 ton of it. 

In one incident, the laboratory staff were asked to analyze the atmosphere in a tanker to see if any hydrocarbon was present. The staff regularly analyzed the atmosphere inside LPG tank trucks to see if any oxygen was present. Owing to a misunderstanding they assumed that an oxygen analysis was required on this occasion and reported over the phone that "none had been detected." The worker assumed that no hydrocarbon had been detected and sent the tank truck for repair. Fortunately the garage carried out their own check analysis. 

Fire extinguishers should be available and easily accessible to areas where diey are mostly likely to be needed, (kitchen, garage, workshop)...

Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colurless, odorless, and tasteless gas. Inhalation of as little as 0.3 percent by volume can cause death within thirty minutes. The exhaust gas from spark ignition engines at an idle speed has a high CO content. For this reason NEVER allow an engine to run in an enclosed space such as a closed garage.
