Gamut

The polymers of the 2-cyanoacryhc esters, more commonly known as the alkyl 2-cyaiioacrylates, are hard glassy resins that exhibit excellent adhesion to a wide variety of materials. The polymers are spontaneously formed when their Hquid precursors or monomers are placed between two closely fitting surfaces. The spontaneous polymerisation of these very reactive Hquids and the excellent adhesion properties of the cured resins combine to make these compounds a unique class of single-component, ambient-temperature-curing adhesives of great versatiUty. The materials that can be bonded mn the gamut from metals, plastics, most elastomers, fabrics, and woods to many ceramics. [Pg.176]

The toxicology of a particular adhesive is dependent upon its components, which mn the gamut of polymeric materials from natural products which often exhibit low toxicity to isocyanates which can cause severe allergic reactions. Although the colors of the polycycHc aromatic carbonyl dyes cover the entire shade gamut, only the blue dyes and the tertiary shade dyes, namely, browns, greens, and blacks, are important commercially. Typical dyes are the blue indanthrone [81-77-6] (40), the brown Cl Vat Brown 3 [131-92-0] (Cl 69012), (41), the black Cl Vat Black 27 [2379-81-9] (42), and the green Cl Vat Green 1 [128-58-5] (Cl 59825) (43), probably the most famous of all the polycycHc aromatic carbonyl dyes. [Pg.279]

Rigid Porous Media These are available in sheets or plates and tubes. Materials used include sintered stainless steel and other metals, graphite, aluminum oxide, silica, porcelain, and some plastics—a gamut that allows a wide range of chemical and temperature resistance.
