Few new data on hepatitis B infection are available and thus are not presented here. Prevalence of total anti-bodies is not a satisfactory measure as it reflects vaccination as well as past, current or chronic infection. However, numbers of injectors with no hepatitis B antibodies indicate a population at risk who would benefit from vaccination. Those who remain infectious can be identified using a specific serological marker (hepatitis B surface antigen HBsAg). Data on levels of HBsAg will be included in future annual reports.

Stability Protocol A postapproval stability protocol should be submitted documenting future plans. It should include information on time points and storage conditions to be evaluated, and indicate whether extensions of expiration dating are intended based on sponsor evaluation of data obtained following the protocol. These data will still have to be submitted, as well as the details of the extensions of expiration dating being implemented, in the annual reports filed with FDA. Also indicate how many batches of drug product will be placed on stability in a year. 

The Editors of Annual Reports in Medicinal Chemistry continue to welcome comments from its readers. We are especially interested in suggestions for new topics which will make future volumes more useful. 

The income statement may also be known as the statement of profit and loss, the earnings statement, or the statement of operations. It displays the operating activities of a company for the year and may be an indication of company s future performance. A typical statement will show the figures for the current year as well as one or two previous year s activities. Frequently, an annual report will include a 5- or 10-year summary near the end of the report. The term consolidated will appear, indicating that all the financial activities of the company and its subsidiary operations are reported in a single statement (Table 3.9) (5). 

The companies chosen for background material in Section 7.2 of this chapter include four chemical companies, two oil companies, four medium-sized companies in the agricultural-biotech, food, paper, and pharmaceutical sectors, as well as a major diversified company. They were selected based on their major business lines as examples of the CPI. Two of the CERs were combined with the annual report in one document, and this may well be the way that environmental reporting will develop in the future. One of the main advantages of incorporating the two reports into one is that it enables an easier linkage between financial, environmental and social information to be established.

To reduce the administrative burden to importers and the EPA, EPA also established a blanket certification procedure that importers can use for repeat shipments of small quantities of chemical substances imported through the mails. The importer must file a 13 import certification with EPA the first time the chemical substance is imported by mail. With this certification, the importer must include a statement of its intent to use a blanket certification for future shipments of the chemical substance. The importer must submit an annual report to EPA, postmarked by January 31 of the following year, for each chemical substance that is imported under a blanket certification, identifying each shipment.
