Surface antigen

Vaccines can be roughly categorized into killed vaccines and Hve vaccines. A killed vaccine can be (/) an inactivated, whole microorganism such as pertussis, (2) an inactivated toxin, called toxoid, such as diphtheria toxoid, or (J) one or more components of the microorganism commonly referred to as subunit vaccines. The examples are capsular polysaccharide of Streptococcus pneumoniae and the surface antigen protein for Hepatitis B vims vaccine. [Pg.356]

Enzyme immunosensors are employed for the determination of Hepatitis B surface antigen, IgG, alpha-fetoprotein, estradiol, theophylline, insulin [9004-10-8] and alburnin (69,70). However, these immunosensors generally have slow response times and slow reversibiUty (57). [Pg.103]

The human leucocyte antigen (HLA) system is the general name of a group of genes in the human major histocompatibility complex (MHC) region on human chromosome 6 (mouse chromosome 17) that encodes the cell-surface antigen-presenting proteins. [Pg.600]

Form protective physical barrier on epithelial surfaces, are involved in cell-cell interactions, and may contain or mask certain surface antigens. [Pg.520]

Drugs frequently bind to blood elements directly (e.g. penicillin to erythrocytes) and the antibodies to the resultant complex react with, and damage, cells coated with the drug. Viruses, especially those that bud, become associated with the host cell surface antigens with the resultant generation of Tc cells. [Pg.298]

Conventional ion-selective electrodes have been used as detectors for immunoassays. Antibody binding measurements can be made with hapten-selective electrodes such as the trimethylphenylammonium ion electrode Enzyme immunoassays in which the enzyme label catalyzes the production of a product that is detected by an ion-selective or gas-sensing electrode take advantage of the amplification effect of enzyme catalysis in order to reach lower detection limits. Hepatitis B vaccine is manufactured using recombinant DNA technology to express hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) in yeast. This is further purified with biochemical separation techniques to produce the vaccine. The vaccines are formulated to contain 10 to 40 meg of HBsAg protein/mL. Hepatitis B vaccine is available as a single component or in combination vaccines. [Pg.1243]
