Fungi species

Coprogen is a hnear trihydroxamate produced by Penicillium species and Neurospora crassa and was first isolated and characterized by Hesseltine and coworkers . Coprogens are predominantly produced by fungi species and frequently several coprogens are produced by the same species. Coprogen is composed of Af -acyl-A -hydroxy-L-ornithine, anhydromevalonic acid and acetic acid. [Pg.790]

For the screening, 25 microbial cultures, obtained from the University of Mississippi Department of Pharmacognosy culture collection, were used. Microbial bioconversion studies of sarcophine (45) showed that it can be metabolized by several fungi species. Preparative-scale fermentation with Absidia glauca American-type culture collection (ATCC) 22752, Rhizopus arrhizus ATCC 11145, and R. stolonifer ATCC 24795 resulted in the isolation... [Pg.249]

The Fly Agaric mushroom (Amanita muscaria) was the earliest fungi species recognized as having psychoactive potential. It was used by shamans in Siberia and in an area along the eastern part of the U.S.-Canadian border and may have inspired the world s earliest religious text, the Rig-Veda. Panther Caps (Amanita pantherina) contain psychoactive principles similar to those in Fly Agarics, which are drawn here about half natural size. [Pg.462]

Alkaloids are diverse in number and form. They can be produced naturally, artificially, or by chance or accident (mutations) and they are therefore a part of global and local biodiversity. Protection of the biodiversity of our Earth was proclaimed by the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) and the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, and it is continuously under public attention in all nations and international discussions. A problem connected with biodiversity, sometimes silenced by scientists, politicians, and nature protection leaders and movements is that the absolute exact number of species existing on the Earth is not known. The answer to the question of how many species exist on the globe is not known and probably never will be known exactly, because the answer needs final documentation of every form of life in all environments and places on the Earth. This is possible only theoretically. Today, more than 275,000 plant species have been described, and about 1.65 million living fungi species are known. About 186,(X)0 species of mollusks are estimated... [Pg.293]

Documented effects An antimicrobial peptide was isolated from the seeds and effectively inhibited the growth of multiple fungi species (Lipkin et al. 2005). [Pg.36]

Over 200 compounds are included in theirichoiliecenes. In addition to Fusarium fungi, species belonging to the genera Myrothecium, Phomopsis, Stachybotrys, Trichoderma and Trichothecium can also produce trichothecenes. [Pg.114]

Diphenyl succinate is being prepared as one of a series of dicarboxyUc add esters that are to be investigated as growth stimulants for selected fungi species. [Pg.41]
