Fuel-cell manufacturing costs and the directiy related retail prices are expected to be strongly affected by the established production volumes and the corresponding learning effects. These volumes depend on the rate of fuel-cell commercialisation, which is expected to be determined by their price competitiveness. In this context, the fuel-cell-related industry, the most cmcial leveraging factor for fuel- ced market development, is of major importance, and also represents an indicator of the situation so far and its near-term future potential (Pehnt et al., 2004). 

A new imaging facility for fuel cell research is expected to be operational in October, 2002. It is a user facility open to researchers from fuel cell manufacturers and automotive companies as well as academic institutions and national laboratories.

Small size and suitability on a small scale makes them beneficial for integration into a fuel cell power plant Fuel cell manufacturers are developing advanced miniaturized designs which are more compact for mobile applications.

The development and manufacture of several types of fuel cells for production of electric and heat energy to meet decentralize and centralize power supply of different power are planned. The special attention is given to zirconia ceramic fuel cells to supply residencies by electricity and heat to replace internal combustion engines in different transport applications to work in hybrid pairs with wind and solar generators, and gas turbines for production of oxygen for medical needs etc.
