Front-End Applications

CMP processes also leave a metallic contamination typically in the 10"-10 at/cm range. These contaminants arise from the outcropping metals, the slurries, and the mechanical environment of the polishers. In front-end applications (STI), these levels are prohibited because they are not compatible with the following hot processes. In the case of back-end steps, these parasitic metals must be removed as well, even if this seems more paradoxical with the use of metallization steps. Indeed a large amount of charges at the interconnection level or the presence of mobile ions such as sodium or potassium can induce disturbances during the electrical information transfer. Furthermore, a superficial conductive metallic contamination can generate shorts between two adjacent lines by percolation conduction mechanism. And last but not least, fast diffusers such as copper can reach... 

A typical operating system is Windows 2000 or XP, although Linux is increasing in use. The operating system snpports other software components required for the application to operate inclnding a database, e.g., Oracle, and a front-end application to manage the operator interface, e.g., written in VB or Access. Other code, for example code to control instrumentation, motors or drives, may be cnstom written or standard code modules.

A tree constructed in this way, which is programmable into a spreadsheet or as a front-end application, can be used to price either a callable or a putable bond. 

In many applications in mass spectrometry (MS), the sample to be analyzed is present as a solution in a solvent, such as methanol or acetonitrile, or an aqueous one, as with body fluids. The solution may be an effluent from a liquid chromatography (LC) column. In any case, a solution flows into the front end of a mass spectrometer, but before it can provide a mass spectrum, the bulk of the solvent must be removed without losing the sample (solute). If the solvent is not removed, then its vaporization as it enters the ion source would produce a large increase in pressure and stop the spectrometer from working. At the same time that the solvent is removed, the dissolved sample must be retained so that its mass spectrum can be measured. There are several means of effecting this differentiation between carrier solvent and the solute of interest, and thermospray is just one of them. Plasmaspray is a variant of thermospray in which the basic method of solvent removal is the same, but the number of ions obtained is enhanced (see below).

Fiber reinforcement of polymers allows us to use them in engineering applications that were previously off limits, We use fiber reinforced injection moldings in many under-the-hood automotive applications, such as rocker box covers and front end modules, which support the radiator, cooling fan, and hood latch, that are subjected to a wide range of temperatures. 

Currently, one of the most important applications is the front-end of recent cars such as the Mini Cooper from BMW, Mazda 6, Audi A6, Ford Focus and VW Polo, associating long glass fibre reinforced polypropylene injected onto stamped metal, which leads to weight savings in the range of 30-35% compared to traditional solutions. 

Today s CMP applications concern both front-end steps such as shallow trench isolation (STI) and inter metal dielectric (IMD) in the back end of the line.
