Free on Board

Exponential cost correlations have been developed for individual items of equipment. Care must be taken in determining whether the cost of the eqmpment has been expressed as free on Board (FOB), delivered (DEL), or installed (INST), as this is not always clearly stated. In many cases the cost must be correlated in terms of parameters related to capacity such as surface area for heat exchangers or power for grinding equipment. There are four main sources of error in such cost correlations ... [Pg.865]

Equipment or Base Cost The total cost of the main-plant items is generally used as the base cost. Again, care must be taken with equipment costs which may be quoted as installed (INST), delivered to site (DEL), or free on board the delivery vehicle at the place of manufacture or other specified location (FOB). [Pg.866]

The purchased cost of an item of equipment, free on board (FOB) is quoted by a supplier, and may be multiplied by a factor of 1.1 to give the approximate delivered cost. The factorial methods for estimating the total installed cost of a process plant are based on a combination of materials, labor, and overhead cost components. The fixed capital cost, C(-p, of a plant based on design can be estimated using the Lang Factor method [14] given by the equation... [Pg.747]

FOB cost. The cost of the crated, fabricated equipment loaded onto a carrier at the location of fabrication (or another specified location). The acronym FOB stands for free-on-board, meaning the equipment has been placed on board the carrier without an additional loading charge, e.g., FOB Pittsburgh. Such a cost does not include tax, duties, freight, and delivery costs. The term purchase cost is ambiguous. [Pg.1301]

The United States Energy Information Administration reports free-on-board coal prices defined as "A sales transaction in which the seller makes the product available for pick up at a specified port or terminal at a specified price and the buyer pays for the subsequent transportation and insurance." Prices, therefore, include a portion of the total transportation costs. [Pg.40]

FREE-ON-BOARD COST AND INSTALLED COST OF THE EQUIPMENT... [Pg.1292]

Equipment-price data concern the free-on-board (FOB) cost and the installed cost of the equipment. The installed cost of a drying system covers the cost of the purchased equipment, cost of equipment installation, and costs of piping, wiring, and instrumentation. These costs can be estimated on the basis of vendors data or, with less accuracy, on the basis of known costs for the equipment or system built previously, assuming a great degree of similarity. [Pg.1292]
