Turboexpanders and Process Applications Dust-Free Design... [Pg.64]

Since the early 1980s, major producers of turboexpanders have been able to supply these machines with bearings upgraded to fully magnetic, oil-free design. Initially, typical mid-size machines were described by the following parameters ... [Pg.67]

The compact, flat profile of GM s fuel cell which is about the size of a personal computer frees designers from the structure imposed by making room for a large internal combustion engine. [Pg.169]

A fuel cell vehicle requires only 1/10 the parts needed for internal combustion models. A change to fuel cell power could end overcapacity problems for GM. It would no longer have to consider different state or country environmental regulations. Fuel cells also free designers and allow them to be more creative with styles and body designs. [Pg.172]

Fig. 1.2. Intermolecular potential curves and radiative transitions of the complex of molecules 1 and 2. The energy spacing AE = Ef — E-, is the difference of the rotovibrational energies of initial and final states of the complex, , = l7l +EV2j2 and Ef = E VlJl + E V2j2, respectively. The bound and free designate bound and free state energies of the complex a prime indicates final states. Also shown are representative radiative transitions hv from bound state to bound state, and from free state to free state, involving rotovibrational transitions in one or both molecules. Fig. 1.2. A convenient notation for classifying mixtures employed in liquid-liquid extraction is C/, where C is the number of components and the number of partially miscible pairs. Mixtures 3/1, 3/2, and 3/3 are called Type I, Type II, and Type III by some authors. A typical 3/1 three-component mixture with only one partially miscible pair is furfural-ethylene glycol-water, as shown in Fig. 3.10, where the partially miscible pair is furfural-water. In practice, furfural is used as a solvent to remove the solute, ethylene g yco, from water the furfural-rich phase is called the extract, and the water-rich phase the raffinate. Nomenclature for extraction, leaching, absorption, and adsorption always poses a problem because, unlike distillation, concentrations are expressed in many different ways mole, volume, or mass fractions mass or mole ratios and special solvent-free designations. In this chapter, we will use V to represent the extract phase and L the raffinate phase, and y and x to represent solute concentration in these phases, respectively. The use of V and L does not imply that the extract phase in extraction is conceptually analogous to the vapor phase in distillation indeed the reverse is more correct for many purposes. [Pg.445]

Once the practicability of a separation has been established it is necessary to decide whether this is best done on a continuous or a batch plant. This may, of course, depend on the availability of existing plant and will only quite seldom be a free design. Table 6.1 lists the considerations that should be taken into account. [Pg.80]

Another glue-free design uses Tefzel gaskets to seal the two microscope slides together [99]. The slides can also be held in a Kel-F (transparent fluoropolymer) clamp and lowered into a completely vacuum-tight cell [100]. Detailed descriptions of the vacuum procedures are provided [101]. For a less permanent seal, wax (such as that used in hair removal) may be used, though it does eventually succumb to solvent attack [102]. [Pg.507]

Laser cutting allows for almost free design of the microfluidic channels in the tape gasket. Figure 5 shows laser-cut double-sided adhesive tapes with microfluidic channels. The tape adhesive is still protected by its liners. The tape cutting can also be depth sensitive, i.e., kiss-cuts down to the carrier liner can be done if the tape roll is used in further automated roll-to-chip or manual tape-to-chip bonding processes. [Pg.1292]

To minimize the effects of voltage distortion on weak AC systems introduced by VFD s applied on hoisting equipment, care should be taken during the specification phases of the VFD s and generation equipment procurement to ensure compatibflity and a trouble-free design. Also, the ratings of harmonic filtering equipment should be verified by a full harmonic study of the system. [Pg.187]

When multiple properties are to be considered simultaneously, other approaches may be used. For example, the cluster ternary diagram may be used as a graphical tool for the design of property-based recycle networks. SheUey and El-FIalwagi [23] introduced the concept of property clusters as the basis for property-based component-free design. Based on the property mixing expressions (e.g., Eq. [4.1]), the property operators maybe normalized via the division by a reference value ... [Pg.94]
