P(X)Cl2 (X=S,0) terminated units allow the grafting of various other functional groups and the preparation of multiplurifunctionalized dendrimers, i.e. dendrimers possessing a large number of sets of two, three or four different functionalities on the surface. [Pg.132]

The first example of a grafted dendrimer carrying non-racemic amino acid moieties at the surface has been reported in 1991 byNewkome et al. [20]. A four-directional core molecule, which they prepared from pentaerythrol [21], has been elongated with the branching units fra[carboxyethoxymethyl]amino-... [Pg.140]

The molar ellipticity of these dendrimers was found to increase proportional to the number of chiral end groups. This is to be expected, in the absence of interactions between the terminal tryptophane moieties. No higher-generation dendrimers of this type have been reported. Other amino-acid-containing chiral dendrimers have been described by Meijer et al. who attached various amino acid derivatives to the periphery of poly(propylene imine) dendrimers (see Sect. 3) and more recently by Liskamp et al. (modification of polyamide dendra) [22] and Ritter et al. (synthesis of grafted polymerizable dendrimers containing L-aspartic acid components) [23]. [Pg.141]

Abstract This review highlights recent (2000-2004) advances and developments regarding the synthesis of block copolymers with both linear [AB diblocks, ABA and ABC triblocks, ABCD tetrablocks, (AB)n multiblocks etc.] and non-linear structures (star-block, graft, miktoarm star, H-shaped, dendrimer-like and cyclic copolymers). Attention is given only to those synthetic methodologies which lead to well-defined and well-characterized macromolecules. [Pg.15]

In order to increase the complexity of the peripheral epitopes resulting from the self-assembly process, glycodendrons have been successfully grafted onto various ligands, allowing the formation of dense glycocomplexes. Indeed, in most of the examples, branching of the dendrimers produces a microenvironment that... [Pg.274]
