Folding Cartons

Folding carton inks are designed for printing on paper board (or boxboard) substrates used in fast food carry out packages, pastry cartons, cereal boxes, mail containers, auto parts boxes, beverage carriers, milk and juice cartons, and other packages. Folding cartons are made from soHd bleached kraft or solid bleached sulfate (SBS), unbleached kraft, solid unbleached sulfate (SUS), clay coated unbleached kraft, recycled paperboard, and coated paperboard. [Pg.118]

For beverage carriers, one substrate type is used consistently in most of the US market. Many beverage carriers are over-coated with a clear protective coating layer. [Pg.118]

A folding carton ink is composed of a hard non-film forming styrene acrylic emulsion vehicle and a styrene acrylic solution vehicle. As an alternative, a film forming styrene acrylic emulsion vehicle and rosin fumarate ester solution vehicle are used. [Pg.119]

A plasticizer (i.e. propylene glycol) and solvent (i.e. n-propyl alcohol) are added to folding carton ink to improve printability and insure coalescence at room temperature. [Pg.119]

Rigid paperboard containers are made of paper greater than 0.254 mm (0.010 in) in caUper and include folding cartons, cormgated ftberboard cases, and spiral wound composite cans. Many paperboard cartons require the use of inner liners or overwraps, made of protective grades of paper, plastic, or aluminum foil laminations. [Pg.450]

The seam closure on a folding carton is typicahy made using a latex, poly(vinyl acetate), vinyl acetate copolymer, or hot-melt adhesive (27). The choice of adhesive depends on a number of factors, including the nature of any coating used on the package and the production speeds required. [Pg.519]

Where folding cartons are to contain a product which is sensitive to moisture pickup, barriers are available which can be incorporated into the carton construction. An example of this is polyethylene laminated to paperboard. In some cases an insert bag is used instead, but this requires an additional operation and is usually accomplished by a form-fill-seal machine that makes a bag which is then inserted by another machine into the folding carton. [Pg.1966]

Offset lithography is the most common process used for printing on paper. It is used for folding carton stock and for can and bottle labels. Most lithographic presses are sheet fed, although there are some web-fed presses. A particular application of offset lithography is the printing of flat metal sheets that are then... [Pg.139]

Cartoner. This may be automated and continuous-motion equipment that receives containers that are standing upright in single file on a feed conveyor. The patient leaflet is positioned by the rotary leaflet placer at the bottom of the infeed bucket followed by a container on the side. The presence of the container and leaflet is verified automatically, and a folding carton is checked in a corresponding bucket. This triggers a push arm to transfer the container and leaflet from the bucket into the erected carton. [Pg.646]

The leaflet is placed in its container, usually the secondary packaging or folding carton, in such a way that there is the greatest chance of the patient having to remove the leaflet to get at the product in the hope that he or she will read the carefully compiled information contained therein. [Pg.677]

The manufacture of a folding carton requires a number of stages, as described below. [Pg.678]
