Focus areas

In reinforcing materials double-dipped polyesters for improved tire durability, plasma-treated yams for improved bonding in tire, and increased usage of aramid fabric as belt and application of PEN are the areas where manufacturers are showing interest. Introduction of new styles of steel wire geometry for improved mbber to metal adhesion and new steel wire coating formulations for improved mbber to metal bonding are other focused areas of development. 

Clearly, however, the flow simplification would be invalid on a small site with episodic projects, or in contexts with significant downtime due to changeover and setup activities for project-specific assays. Such simulation problems covering multiple projects and multiple assays, with use of a mix of shared and dedicated resources, can rapidly become intractable, and an early, com-monsense selection of the focus area for simulation is essential. 

Therefore we increasingly take the view that rather than fully simulating the business context, which may seem like a black box approach, it is better to have decision makers interact with more selective simulations. These help develop their intuitions and hone their judgment and reasoning ability in focused areas, especially in the area of probability, applied statistics, and decision theory, which is nonintuitive without such practice.

The observed increase in Raman intensity by a factor of 15 within the laser focus of about 2 pm, corresponds to a maximum local enhancement at the center of the tip apex by a factor of about 12 000 under the assumption that the tip radius is 100 nm. More precisely, about 20% of the Raman intensity is considered to originate from an area with a radius of 14 nm under the tip, which is roughly equivalent to 400 molecules out of 2 X 10 in the total focused area.

The International Programme on Chemical Safety (IPCS) has undertaken a project to harmonize approaches to the assessment of risk from exposure to chemicals through increased understanding. The project focuses on specific issues and attempts to achieve agreement on basic principles. September 2003 the Fuel Cell Vision Paper - notes that the UK should take a leading role in the development and deployment of fuel cells, and sets out various scenarios for the short, medium and long term. Additionally, it specifies various R D focus areas and mechanisms for the government to influence the development of the industry. 

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is researching technologies for the stabilization and immobilization of fly ash contaminated with radionuclides and metals that will reduce waste material volume and consistently satisfy regulatory requirements. The Mixed Waste Focus Area (MWFA), a DOE/EM-50 program, has stated the need for improved stabilization methods that would accept higher ash waste loadings. To address these issues, the MWFA has invested in a sintered ceramic stabilization technique developed by Clemson University.

A different concept to enhancing leadership effectiveness was presented by Jim Collins (2001) in his book, Good to Great. He encouraged the development of a stop doing list by business leaders. Collins s rationale for this concept is that leaders lead busy lives with many to do lists. By developing a stop doing list, leaders can channel their resources into a few focused areas. 

During the period of developing the process for the manufacture of the API HCl, the ethyl acetate level was set at <0.2%. This level was filed in the New Drug Application (NDA). However, over the course of time, it became apparent that the tablets made from API HCl containing <0.2% ethyl acetate developed an odor of ethyl acetate—an issue manifested in customer complaints (as an aside, the FDA generally targets customer complaints as one of its focus areas in initiating a production plant inspection).
