The color formulation binder system can also have undesirable effects on strength properties. If the binder in a liquid color concentrate, for example, plasticizes the let-down resin, you can expect the flexural properties and HDT to decrease. Some universal carrier systems have only limited compatibility with many resins and separate out as a separate phase. The unwanted effects include delamination and loss in tensile and impact strength. [Pg.330]

Flexural properties of rigfd cellular plastics may be determined by ISO/DIS 1209, which specifies two methods using three-point loading. Method A may be used to determine either the load for a specified deformation, or the load at break. Method B way be used to determine the load at break and the flexural strength. These methods are useful only when no significant crushing is observed. [Pg.384]

ASTM D790 Standard Test Methods for Flexural Properties of Unreinforced and Reinforced Plastics and Electrical Insulating Materials. Used to determine flexural properties of unreinforced and reinforced plastics, and is generally applicable to both rigid and semirigid materials. D 790 uses a three-point loading system applied to a simply supported beam, and is valid for those materials that break or fail in the outer surface of the test specimen within the 5.0% strain limit of these test methods. It should be noted that these test methods are not technically equivalent to ISO 178. [Pg.186]

The flexural properties characterize the strength, deformation and stiffness behaviour of plastics under quasi-static bend loading. For these tests commercial universal test systems equipped with three-point and four-point fixtures are used. The most important standard for the bend test of plastics is the ISO 178 Plastics - Determination of flexural properties, which favors the three point bend test (Fig. 4.39). The data collected include also values determined according DIN 53452 and DIN 53457 as well as ASTM D 790. The specimen of preference exhibits dimensions of 80 x 10 x 4 mm and can be produced directly by injection moulding or cutting the shoulders from multipurpose specimens. [Pg.201]

Flexural modulus is a measure of the strength of adhesives. Modulus data are most often used in stress analysis (one-dimensional or as an input to 3D-modeling). In addition to flexural modulus, elongation-at-break is also recorded. The standard test method is ASTM D790, Flexural Properties of Unreinforced and Reinforced Plastics and Electrical Insulating Materials. Two methods are specified. The first uses a three-point bending test two supports hold the part and a load is applied with a single point to induce... [Pg.417]
