The carbonyl group (C=0) gives infrared absorption bands in 1750-1735 cm . The C—H stretching vibrations produce bands in 1300-1180 cm . Aliphatic and aromatic esters may conveniently be analyzed by GC nsing flame ionization detector. A column snch as 10% SP-1000 or 5% FLAP on Chro-mosorb W-HP is suitable for the purpose. [Pg.370]

Solid-state actuation signifies the use of the induced-strain effect present in active materials to achieve actuation without any moving parts, i.e., in a solid-state manner. Already, solid-state actuation has found niche application in the aerospace industry. The aero-servo-elastic control of vibrations and flutter with solid-state actuated flaps, tabs, vanes, etc. for helicopter rotor blades and aircraft wings is currently being experimented on. [Pg.19]

Based on such dynamic deformation characteristics, noiseless swimming robotic structures as shown in Figure 13 and cilia assembly-type robotic worlds, similar to coral reefs, as shown in Figure 14, were constructed and tested for collective vibrational dynamics. Furthermore, wing flapping flying machines, schematically shown in Figure 15, can be equipped with these muscles. [Pg.39]

Important components of any civil aircraft structure are the transmission rods, which drive the flaps and the slats and the floor-beam struts in the fuselage (Fig. 98). These are all Grade 1 structures, which are subjected to high levels of rotational, vibrational, bending and environmental stresses. [Pg.331]

It should be noted that many of the issues can be dealt with an improved design or stmctural modifications. This is the case, for example, for flutter- and vortex-induced vibration suppressions on bridge deck, obtained by means of section modifications or aerodynamic countermeasures (e.g., deflectors, fairings, and flaps). Similarly, an appropriate designed cable cross section and surface can minimize cable vibration. [Pg.540]

The installation of the GEC system is usually done using the displacement method. This method consists of driving a steel pipe with a vibrator through the soft soil until it reaches the competent layer. The pipe is closed at the tip by double flaps or a sacrificial foot plate. The soil is not removed but displaced, which makes this method... [Pg.382]

Figure 5 Solid curves potential energy scans for (H20)J and (H20>2 along the flap angle coordinate, with the other coordinates relaxed. (The cis and trans structures of the anion, shown at right, snggest the nature of the flap angle.) Calculations were performed at the CCSD(T) level with a large, diffuse basis set," and harmonic zero-point corrections for all coordinates except the flap angle are included in these potentials. In the absence of zero-point corrections, both the cis and trans isomers of (H20)J are local minima, but the latter minimum (at 38°) disappears on zero-point correction. Broken curves lowest two vibrational wave functions = 0 and 1) for these one-dimensional potentials. Adapted with permission from Ref. 119 copyright 1999 American Institute of Physics.
