Fire safety systems measuring

The periodic inspections of fire safety systems are likely to be recorded within the fire log book and will be considered as part of the proactive monitoring programme, particularly as the items form a critical component of the workplace precautions or control measures that reduce the overall risk in relation to fire. 

Among these active technologies, two measures have been identified for the conception of fire-safe FRP buildings sprinkler systems and internal Hquid coohng systems. In the following sections, each of these methods is described and their potential for imparting fire safety is discussed. 

For fires, in particular, every regulatory system has issued guide criteria and requirements which, in general, necessitate the implementation of a complete fire protection program. This includes provisions for the separation of redundant safety systems, other prevention measures, anti-fire equipment and operating procedures. 

The fire safety of equipment enclosed in cabinets could be controlled by consideration of the components and cables inside or by designing the cabinet in an appropriate way. In some cases active measures like detectors or water mist systems might be included. 

The opportunity to test fire protection systems under real situations is, thankfulfy, a rare event in most organizations. Consequently, risk determination is difficult and the best assessment can only be an approximation of future outcomes. Nevertheless, assessments and approximations are critical factors in setting standards and measuring performance. To position a fire extinguisher on a wall and expect some untrained employee to use the device is unacceptable. To have the extinguisher, maintain it, and not expect it to be used to protect life and property is nonsense. The well conducted safety audit will discover the strengths and weaknesses in the system and provide a blueprint for any action plans necessary for improvement. 

Measures for upgrading the fire detection and alarm system are envisaged within the programme of fire safety improvement for Ukrainian NPPs. 

Fire fighting systems shall be automatically initiated where necessary. Fire fighting systems shall be designed and located so as to ensure that their rupture or spurious or inadvertent operation would not significantly impair the capability of SSCs important to safety, and would not simultaneously affect redundant safety groups and thereby render ineffective the measures taken to comply with the single failure criterion (see paras 6.36-6.38). 

Particular attention was paid to fire safety for the primary and secondary sodium equipment and pipelines. Technical measures are provided to limit the scope of sodium leaks and fires. Thus all reactor-related auxiliary sodium system pipes leaving the reactor vessel are jacketed up to a second isolation valve (including the valve casings) and are located in partially leak-tight rooms. 

Employers must have a system for managing fire safety [11], which includes measures for planning, organisation, controi and monitoring of your fire preventive and protective measures. This must be recorded if ... 

Having identified the risks to the organisation and its assets, the function of risk management is to determine the probability or likelihood of the risks arising and the severity of the outcome in each case. It could follow that the risk could be controlled, in the case of a fire risk, by the installation of a better fire protection system, e.g. sprinkler system, automatic fire alarm, etc. and improved safety precautions. The implementation of these measures frequently results in some form of savings in the long term, such as insurance premium reductions, cash grants and tax allowances.
