Boron fibres and boron/carbon fibre hybrids... [Pg.800]

The boron/carbon fibre hybrids, Hy-Bor, are sometimes used in sports goods for their ability to provide thinner laminates and save weight for the same stiffness. [Pg.800]

The design and manufacture is described in detail of a dashboard module from polypropylene. The lightweight monomaterial dashboard comprises an outer material of a TPO film, foam backed with an EPP foam. This decorative element, together with a highly integrated composite fibre hybrid cross beam, forms the core element of the lightweight dashboard module. The prototype consists of four individual components, and is designed in such a way that it can be built into and tested in the Mercedes A class car. 3 refs. [Pg.69]

Another novel pultruded panel has been developed by Mastercore System Ltd., Canada. This could be used in applications such as truck walls, roofs, floors and doors, boat decks, freight containers and sound barriers. The mastercore panel consists of an outer shell of a polyurethane-impregnated fibre carbon/glass fibre hybrid composites with an inner core of a structural foam (Jacob, 2006). [Pg.406]

The reinforcement increases the composite material tensile strength if fibre reinforcement is sufficiently effective. The tensile strength of the matrix itself is low for instance, that of Portland cement mortars and concretes is approximately equal to 10-12% of their compressive strength. Much higher composite tensile strength is obtained thanks to various systems of reinforcement, including systems with two or more different fibres (hybrid reinforcement). [Pg.110]

The cord can be made of glass, carbon or aramid fibres. Hybrid yarns, consisting of reinforcement and matrix fibres, can also be applied. [Pg.220]

The data included in this text on several specialized types of composite are rather limited. These (mainly thermosetting matrix) systems include those based on aligned short fibres, hybrids consisting of two or more types of fibre in a common matrix and sandwich structures consisting of a light-weight core and composite skins. These systems either have relatively low properties or such a range of possible constitutions as to make it difficult to find representative structures. Nevertheless, they are widely used in many areas, often because of their ease of fabrication. [Pg.3]
