The explosive was exhaustively characterized for thermal behavior, impact sensitivity and electrostatic discharge sensitivity etc. Based on this data, CP has been described as much less sensitive to accidental initiation than primary explosives such as LA but at the same time, initiation grows rapidly to detonation when properly confined. Its performance evaluation in a test detonator or hardware indicates that CP can replace primary explosives in many hot wire detonator applications especially if safety considerations are of prime importance [239]. [Pg.135]

Satisfied customers also means less negative word of mouth, which can travel faster (and farther) than positive comments. All these behavioral impacts can help to improve the bottom line of the company, namely, profitability (Zeithaml, Rust, and Lemon, 2001). [Pg.350]

We have argued that psychostimulants, by releasing DA in the NAc, eventually mimic the appetitive/incentive component rather than the consummatory component of natural reward and the behavioral impact of conditioned stimuli rather than of unconditioned ones (Di Chiara, 1998). Consistent with this hypothesis is the circumstance that food reward induces hedonia independently from DA, in contrast with psychostimulant reward, which is mediated by the activation of DA transmission in the NAc shell. A problem with this hypothesis however derives from the observation that the ability to release DA in the... [Pg.361]

This chapter discusses the role of various nanoparticles in inuniscible polymer blends for control of the size of the dispersed polymer phase particles, phase inversitMi and rheological behavior, impact strength, and mechanical performance. Various issues such as the effect of nanoparticle dimensions on the polymer particle size and properties, blending sequence, location of nanoparticles in the blend components, mechanism behind improvement in... [Pg.1485]

In every organization, its values, norms, beliefs, and practices are translated into a system of expected behavior, and that expected behavior impacts positively or negatively on decisions taken with respect to management systems, design and engineering, operating methods, work methods, and prescribed task performance. [Pg.58]

Alloying additions can have considerable effect on SCC behavior, impacting the formation of protective films on the alloy systems and impacting metallurgical condition, and subsequently impacting the electrochemical and chemical environmental states. These factors are evidenced by the... [Pg.290]

These low probabilities of injury comprise part of what makes further safety improvements such a challenge. We will provide additional discussion of the behavioral impact of these probabilities later in the book. [Pg.5]

Figure 10.16 illustrates the influence of negative consequences on activator impact. In this case, however, the compliance will be reactive rather than proactive. That is, a negative incident occurred because the specific behavior-focused instructions were not followed. From now on, however, it is likely this activator will be effective for tiiis person and if he shares the negative incident and its messy consequences with otiier store personnel, tiiis activator will take on increased significance and behavioral impact. [Pg.195]

So what good is it to punish one of many at-risk behaviors If the behavior is an error, pxmishment will only stifle reporting, analysis, and the development of effective corrective action. If the probability of getting caught while taking a calculated risk is low—and it is miniscule if you wait xmtil an injury occurs—any threat of punishment will have little behavioral impact. [Pg.219]

Figure 16.7 Natural variation of performance makes it easier to see a presumed behavioral impact of negative rather than positive consequences. Figure 16.7 Natural variation of performance makes it easier to see a presumed behavioral impact of negative rather than positive consequences.
In summary, normal circumstances make it relatively difficult to focus on the positive. Mistakes are more noticeable than "go-with-the-flow" successes, and natural regression to average performance can develop a faulty belief that negative consequences have more behavioral impact than positive consequences. However, considering the impact consequences have on internal person states (especially self-efficacy and self-esteem), a positive consequence (like praise and social approval) is always preferable to a negative consequences (like criticism or ridicule). [Pg.361]

Leakage at a number of wellbore depths has been thoroughly evaluated, including the top, the middle and the bottom of the aimulus. To further improve our understanding of the annular pressure behavior, impacts of CO2 injection temperature, as well as baekflush at different CO2 injection stages have also been investigated. [Pg.76]

And certainly, we must recognize that the design engineer needs to know more meaningful information about how the polymer perform under intended conventional use and abnormal abuse conditions (modulus v. temperature, creep behavior, impact toughness, and fatigue endurance, etc.). [Pg.10]

In 1957, the WHO Expert Committee on Insecticides" " stated that the problem of resistance is growing much more rapidly than measures to deal with it. The stage has now been reached where a greatly accelerated effort... is needed to cope with it. Obviously, there was a strong need for developing (1) new insecticides and (2) standard methods to analyze inherent toxic and behavioral impacts. [Pg.95]
