Fiber pick

Fiber pick Also called fill, woof, or weft. An individual filling yarn running the width of a woven fabric at right angles to the warp. [Pg.88]

Count In fabric, it is the number (count units) of warp fibers (ends) and filling fibers (picks) per unit of length (cm or in). [Pg.99]

Most nonfixed-pore structure filters are subject to media migration. This means that parts of the filter medium become detached and continue to pass downstream, contaminating the effluent (fluid that has passed through the filter). Media migration is also sometimes incorrectly taken to include release of "built-in" contamination—for example, dust and fibers picked up by the filter during its manufacture. [Pg.221]

The Fitting Problem. In many studies in particular of natural fibers, orientation distributions are picked from spherical arcs in scattering patterns and then fitted by Gaussians or Lorentzians. The result is the finding of an isotropic background. At least part of this background is not related to structure, but to a fundamental misunderstanding. [Pg.220]

Preparation of Other Antigenic Materials. Cotton plant tissues (stem, leaf, burr), cotton gin trash, baled cotton, clean cotton lint, both hand picked in the field and from plants grown in the greenhouse, cottonseed proteins, cottonseed hulls, house dust, and flax, soft hemp, sisal, and jute fibers, were extracted with deionized water. The purification process was, however, stopped to correspond to f-3 (see Figure 1). [Pg.261]

There have been reports of reactions between house dust and cotton dust antibodies (38) and of allergens in cottonseed proteins by Spies et al T39). Also, byssinosis is uncommon in cottonseed crushing mills. Therefore we looked for the presence of antigens in water extracts of house dust, cottonseed hulls, cottonseed kernel proteins and clean hand picked cotton fibers that had not been baled. The results in Figure 5 indicate that house dust does not contain antigens common to those found in cotton dust. [Pg.267]

The polymer was extruded at 240 C to produce 28-strand multifilament yarn. The yam was hot-stretched and fiber tensile strengths in the range 3-6 g/den (1-2 dpf) could be obtained. The yam was placed on braider bobbins on a 12-carrier machine with 7-ply core. The braid was made with 51 picks per inch and hot-stretched 25% at215 F. [Pg.162]

Fiber optic data cable will stretch from the shore for 30 km to a connector box some 4800 meters below the ocean surface. Strings of nine separate cables will rise vertically about 280 meters above the ocean floor. Each cable, held up by a float, will contain 24 detectors. The apparatus, referred to as a neutrino telescope, will have to pick up at least ten muon events per year from any given 1° patch of sky for the DUMAND scientists to be confident that they have a significant neutrino source, not just a few background pulses from non-ncutrino cosmic rays,... [Pg.1066]

While viewing the yam samples under magnification, individual fibers were picked from the collected samples using fine tweezers and carefully placed onto microscope slides for further examination. [Pg.34]
