Fear of persecution

Critics have therefore argued that the Convention itself is both androcentric and heteronormative, demanding, for instance, that the refugee definition be rewritten to include gender as a basis (of fear) of persecution, and that persecution itself be redefined in (p. 399) order to recognize the political nature of female resistance to systems of oppression and violence within both the public and private spheres (Indra 1987). 

A final issue at the nexus of disability and asylum pertains to asylum claims based on disability-related persecution. A nascent argument is emerging in favour of disability-sensitive interpretations of the Convention definition of a refugee. To be granted refugee status, the person concerned needs to show a well-founded fear of persecution. This persecution may not necessarily have materialized by the time the refugee claim is lodged. Soldatos et al. (1986) reported on serious adverse drug reactions in all five psychiatric inpatients during a clinical trial of 0.5 mg triazolam and placebo. The patients and nurses were blind in the study, but not the physician with medical responsibility for the patients. The study consisted of 1 week of placebo baseline, 2 weeks of triazolam administration, and 1 week of withdrawal on placebo. All five patients developed severe reactions to triazolam. Case 1 developed anxiety and hallucinations on the last two days of triazolam administration and the first withdrawal day. Case 2 had a sudden increase in anxiety and became irritable, uncooperative, and depressed. She became withdrawn and cried, and showed considerable impairment of memory and orientation. On withdrawal of triazolam, she became more incoherent, expressing paranoid ideas of persecution that persisted about a week. She required Haldol to control her delusions. Case 3 developed severe insomnia during withdrawal and reported considerable anxiety and irritability along with an uncontrollable fear of death, which persisted to the next day when she additionally manifested a marked degree of memory impairment. Not so the SS they ordered five facilities to begin with, and after the first mobile one ( Osten IF) proved effective in Lublin in 1943 they ordered another five stationary facilities. The aforementioned mobile installation fit onto the trailer of a truck manufactured by Dromos-Werke of Leipzig. Operating the installation merely required a 380-volt mains connection or a portable electrical generator. There is a privately-owned film about this facility which was probably filmed in Lublin unfortunately it is not very instructive, as it does not show the interior of the truck trailer. The main part of the process is the introduction of the parcels of clothing sideways into the vehicle on the conveyor belt. To date the owner of the film is reluctant to publish it because he fears the persecution that might result from such an action. 

Paranoia Deiustons of persecution or grandeurj unreasoning belief that one is the target of conspiracies and patterns of events aimed at one s destruction or benefit. In common usage, the term is a synonym for extreme fear, especially of other people and situations. 

But just because the plant is not a party-goer, is not harmful, and is not abused anywhere in the known world does not mean that it would not be persecuted by those who rule by fear, if they knew of its existence. So in summation we will reiterate the early assessments of the plant and agree that it is a minor psychtropic of well-deserved obscurity. 

Seeing visions or hearing voices can only be attractive if the social context rewards and supports them and the individual believes that such experiences are valuable. Accusatory voices that arise unbidden cause fear and suspicion, leading to the belief that one is being persecuted by an external agency like the devil, Martians, or the FBI. In this case, we call the perceptions hallucinations and the beliefs delusions, and in so doing label them symptoms of mental illnesses like schizophrenia. The person with this kind of psychosis becomes a patient, with the most dire personal and social consequences.
