Glycidaldehyde has been used as a cross-linking agent for the finishing of wool, for the oil tanning and fat liquoring of leather and surgical sutures (lARC, 1976). [Pg.1459]

Besides shade, gloss is also an essential attribute, and special products like cationic fat liquors are used. Silicones give a very appropriate silky sheen often seen as a two-way (often called writing) effect on buffed leather. Most coat finishing processes also provide a glossy appearance. [Pg.429]

A moderately hydrophilic emulsifier and lubricant, is used as an emulsifier for solvents in pesticide carriers and metal cleaners. In the textile industry it is used in the formulation of specialty detergents and dyeing assistants. It is also used as an emulsifier for neatsfoot oil in leather fat liquoring and as a rewetting agent for paper. [Pg.354]

After chrome tanning the leather then undergoes further tanning with synthetic resins and natural tannins and is then finally dyed and fat liquored ... [Pg.244]

Conversely, when the technique of chrome tanning was being developed in the late nineteenth century, it was found that the leather produced would dry out as a hard, stiff, inflexible material. It was only by the addition of fatty lubricating products in the form of an emulsion, in what became known as the fat liquoring process, and by mechanically working the skin that a useable product could be made. In a similar way, the production of alum-tawed skins involved the use of such fatty materials as egg yolk or olive oil and mechanical softening procedures. [Pg.94]

EU, 9,380 tons per year were used for metalworking in 1994. These amounts were reduced significantly in 1998 (2,018 tons per year). Other uses include paints, adhesives and sealants, leather fat liquors, plastics and rubber, flame retardants and textiles and polymeric materials (Table 6). The amounts of SCCPs used in the EU were reduced from 13,208 tons per year to 4,075 tons per year for all uses in 1994 and 1998, respectively. Since 2002, the use of SCCPs in the EU in metalworking and fat liquoring of leathers has been subject to restrictions under EU Directive 2002/45/EC. [Pg.9]

Animal glues are used in leather manufacturing as a component of fat liquoring compounds which are used to impart softness to the leather, and as a filling agent to give added body to the leather. They are also used in finishing. [Pg.490]
