Specialty detergents

A moderately hydrophilic emulsifier and lubricant, is used as an emulsifier for solvents in pesticide carriers and metal cleaners. In the textile industry it is used in the formulation of specialty detergents and dyeing assistants. It is also used as an emulsifier for neatsfoot oil in leather fat liquoring and as a rewetting agent for paper. 

AES have been used in the United States and Japan because of their critical micelle concentration, which is lower than LAS, resulting in very satisfactory washing power. In Europe, the use of alcohol ether sulfates has been largely restricted to specialty detergents [3, 4].

Specialty detergents. Specialty detergents play a relatively minor role in the United States, but they are quite important in Western Europe. 

Specialty detergents are products developed for use with specific types of household fabrics. Such detergents are generally employed with washing machines and usually require the use of special cycles (e.g., a wool cycle to prevent felting, a colored wash cycle to eliminate dye transfer, or a curtain cycle to prevent wrinkling).

At present, based on the promising applications of SE detergency to specialty detergents, we now are undertaking research and development work on applications of SE in shcimpoo and toothpaste. I trust to have the opportunity, in the near future, to report on the results of this work. 

Nonionic surfactants are more tolerant of the presence of cationic surfactants than anionic surfactants. Mixtures of the two are sometimes used in the production of specialty detergents that are powerfiil antistatic products.
