Family involvement

Family involvement may improve the chances for successful treatment if family members are supportive of the client. True or False ... [Pg.135]

Furthermore, if family involvement is important for the client, then family input and commitment to the treatment plan may help make treatment a success. [Pg.166]

Family involvement may be essential when conducting therapy or treatment with a minority client. If the family members have aided in the development of a treatment plan by providing helpful information, and understand the rationale behind the treatment plan, then they are more likely to support treatment as it unfolds. Again, this should be done only with the consent of the client, but it can be incredibly helpful to have collateral support for the treatment plan if the client consents to their active involvement. [Pg.167]

Treatment plans are a first step toward getting collaterals interested in treatment. One problem that I have seen while working with some clients is that although they would like their families involved, their family members feel somewhat excluded by the way treatment works. In many cases, what happens in therapy and treatment is more of a mystery to family and friends than it is to a client. Family and friends feel left out if not actively invited to participate by therapists or counselors (when the client assents to such participation), and if not adequately educated about what treatment entails. Family and close friends should be oriented to treatment in the same way as are clients. Involvement in treatment planning can be a way to orient family and close friends as well as to gather helpful information about the client and his or her world. If collaterals understand treatment better, then they will be more likely to support it. [Pg.167]

Family involvement can be quite helpful in the relapse prevention effort. One potentially useful strategy is for families to make efforts to reduce relationship stressors. These efforts will likely require couples or family therapy, which ideally will improve communication within the family system and potentially reduce friction. In addition, family members may learn to reduce any negatively expressed emotions toward the client. Family and couples therapy would be highly recommended if those stressors represent a high-risk situation for the client in question and if the family members or partner are supportive of the client s efforts toward recovery. [Pg.281]

The comparisons we will make within each family involve experimental enthalpies of formation and the derived enthalpy of destabilization (DSE). If there are no intramolecular interactions in the nitrosubstituted parent compound, equation 58 would be thermoneutral. [Pg.362]

The immediate concern in the treatment of alcoholics is detoxification and management of the ethanol withdrawal syndrome. Once the patient is detoxified, longterm treatment requires complete abstinence, psychiatric treatment, family involvement, and frequently support from lay organizations such as Alcoholics Anonymous. [Pg.415]

Treatment should begin in the least restrictive setting that ensures personal safety, as it is important to maximize family involvement from the onset. In youth with SUD, family involvement increases compliance with treatment and leads to higher rates of sustained abstinence (Bergmann et ah, 1995). It is important to review with the patient and family that medication is one aspect of the treatment plan and is more likely to be effective when used in conjunction with other treatments. In addition, the clinician should also review how the medication will work, the possible side effects, and the time frame in which benefit may be expected. An informed and involved family is more likely to encourage compliance from an adolescent than one that has never met their child s treatment team. An adult caretaker and not the patient should store, administer, and monitor all prescription medications to maximize compliance and minimize the potential for abuse. [Pg.611]

The Bcl-2 protein is a member of a protein family involved in regulation of the apoptotic program in mammalian cells (review Reed, 1997 Adams and Cory, 1998). At present, at least 15 members are known of the Bcl-2 family, which can have a negative or a positive effect on initiation of the apoptotic program. All Bcl-2 family members have at least one copy of a so-called BH motif (BH, Bcl-2 homolog), of which there are four types (BHl - BH4). [Pg.463]
