In reality, the transition between plastic collapse and crack propagation is not abrupt, but gradual. Although studies have been published on safety analysis approaches, controlled experiments are rarely reported. St lhane and colleagues published a set of controlled experiments with students comparing different approaches in the area of security and safety with respect to the subjects performance, i.e., the number of identified hazards. Like FT, FMEA can be used for failure propagation analyses, but it is used here for hazard identification.
