Fibrinolytics. Figure 2 Various fibrin structures for plasmin. Fibrinogen (Fg) is converted to fibrin (F) by thrombin (T), and thrombin can also convert factor XIII (XIII) to activated factor XIII (Xllla). The latter produces crosslinks between fibrins (FxxF) and also may crosslink fibrin with a2-plasmin inhibitor (FxxFxxPI). The efficiency of digestion of these plasmin substrates by plasmin, resulting in the soluble fibrin degradation products (FDP), is different. The amount of FDP formed in time is expressed in arbitrary units. [Pg.504]

In general, stabilizers function by reaction with proplnt decompn products. A number of methods have been described and a preliminary evaluation of these methods was conducted by several labs under a cooperative program. Based on results from these screening tests, the PicArsn spec tropho tome trie methods for available stabilizer and primary degradation products were selected for further study. The initial phase of this program was an attempt to standardize the necessary spectrophotometric factors. Significant differences with regard to the factors obtained... [Pg.944]

The total-chlorine method has been used extensively in the determination of spray residues of the chlorinated hydrocarbons 56). Usually the kind of insecticide applied has been known, and by means of the proper factor the chlorine values could be calculated to the insecticide originally used. This calculation is not entirely valid, as the determinations do not differentiate between the insecticide and its degradation products or other contaminants containing organic chlorine. The values obtained by the total-chlorine method are useful, however, because they indicate the magnitude of the residue and the analysis can be made in a short time with standard laboratory equipment. [Pg.66]

As already mentioned, van Kuijk and colleagues (Kalariya et al., 2008) tested the effects of oxidation products of [i-carotcnc, lutein, and zeaxanthin on the activation of redox-sensitive transcription factors, NF-kB, and AP-1 in cultured ARPE-19 cells. Degradation products of all three carotenoids induced activation of NF-kB and AP-1, and these effects were ameliorated by pretreatment of cells with 1 mM NAC. NF-kB is a major transcription factor that binds to promoter sites of many pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1, IL-6, TNF-a, and iNOS. These results indicate that the degradation products of carotenoids can stimulate a pro-inflammatory pathway. [Pg.337]

A major area for research includes further establishing key biomarkers of exposure. Because each agent may have multiple metabolites, degradation products, protein or DNA adducts, there are many potential biomarkers. Establishing which are most suitable depends on multiple factors including cost, the analytical standards required, and laboratory expertise. The methodology for assessing each biomarker would then have to be validated and a QC system put in place. [Pg.127]

For degradable polymers, the next step is to determine when and how the polymer needs to degrade. Are there preferred degradation products Does degradation need to be fast or slow What environmental factors may contribute to the degradation rate - moisture, sunlight, microbes, mechanical stresses, or cyclic weathering ... [Pg.601]

While we are not aware of any systematic investigation of the conditions and structural factors that influence diketopiperazine formation, the literature contains a number of examples of such reactions. Thus, cyclo(His-Trp), a degradation products of LHRH (Fig. 6.16, Reaction c), is a secondary product formed after cleavage of the Glp-His bond. After an incubation of 90 d at neutral pH, cyclo(His-Trp), represented 4 and 10% of the breakdown products obtained at 37° and 50°, respectively [74],... [Pg.302]

Inappropriate response factors may have been used for quantitation of impurities/degradation products (i.e., molar extinction coefficients of degradation products are less than those of the API). [Pg.165]

In reference 68, a different approach was used to verify the robustness of a CE separation of ibuprofen, codeine phosphate, degradation products, and impurities in a drug product (tablet). Small variations around the optimal conditions obtained during method optimization were introduced and the results were predicted from the response model. The variations in the factor levels during the robustness evaluation were smaller than those evaluated during method optimization. Since both migration times and resolutions were acceptably predicted, the method was considered robust with respect to the small changes. The examined factors... [Pg.211]
