Factorial analysis

It is possible to analyse the model based on an F-test analysis and matrices. A nonmatrix approach is presented in Appendix A4 Nonmatrix Approach to the Analysis of 2 -Factorial Design. Let [Pg.150]

When I = 2 and the proposed 1 encoding is used, then, by definition, the basis is orthonormal, and Eq. (3.17) reduces to [Pg.151]

To determine whether a given regressor should be in the model, calculate for each regressor the F-statistic as follows  [Pg.152]

The value obtained from Eq. (4.20) is compared with the critical E-value denoted as E(0.95, 1, - 1)). If Fi is greater than E-critical, then the regressor should be [Pg.152]

In formulation studies, all the factors affecting the stability of the pharmaceutical product have to be considered. Because the stability of pharmaceuticals is generally affected by numerous and complex factors, quantitative analysis of the role of each would involve a very large and complex series of experiments. The effect of each individual factor would have to be tested under conditions in which all other factors are maintained constant. Factorial analysis attempts to minimize the number of experiments needed to get meaningful results and, therefore, to save time and labor. [Pg.157]

Consider the following example. The dependence of degradation rate on reactant concentrations ([A], [B], [C],. . . ) is described by additive terms for each degradation pathway, as represented by the rate equation (Eq. 2.4).657 Therefore, kobs [the terms inside brackets in Eq. 2.41 is described by Eq. (4.2) when, for example, hydroxide ion (B) and phosphate ion (C) catalyze the degradation independently. [Pg.158]

On the other hand, a factor such as ionic strength that directly affects the rate constant k [Eqs. (2.4), (2.6), and (2.7)] enters into the rate equation as a product term  [Pg.158]

To obtain kb, and/(A), experiments are performed at two levels for each factor, such [Pg.158]

There are three fundamental stages in the process of manufacture of Portland cement, namely. (I) preparation of the raw mixture. (2) production of the clinker. (3) preparation of Ihe cement. The vectors of means = (xi, I2,..., x ) and deviations = (ii, S2,. ..,Sp), and matrices of covariances S = (Sij) and correlations R = (tij) can be calculated. For this data matrix, the most used non-supervised methods are Principal Components Analysis (PCA), and/or Factorial Analysis (FA) in an attempt to reduce the dimensions of the data and study the interrelation between variables and observations, and Cluster Analysis (CA) to search for clusters of observations or variables (Krzanowski 1988 Cela 1994 Afifi and Clark 1996). Before applying these techniques, variables are usually first standardised (X, X ) to achieve a mean of 0 and unit variance. [Pg.694]

The most widespread fill material is reddish brown (2.5 YR 4/4, 5 YR 4/4) loam with a minor admixture of relatively large oolitic bauxite pebbles (derived from the Late Triassic - Camian - beds) and coarse clasts of black chert. Pilot X-ray diffraction analysis revealed mostly muscovite/illite, plus mixed-layer clay minerals of illite/montmorillonite type, chlorite plus mixed-layer clay minerals of chlorite/montmorillonite type, calcium montmorillonite, and diaspore plus gibbsite, or just traces of bauxite minerals (Misic, 2000). The mineral composition is not as uniform as might be expected, and further research, intended for application of factorial analysis, is in progress. A potential sediment source area in the present Cerkniscica River basin (Fig. 1) appears obvious at first glance, but similar outcrops of bauxite and chert do also appear at other sites that are not much more remote. [Pg.128]

Thus, PCA may be used to filter out the most relevant information in a data set. Variations of PCA, such as correspondence factorial analysis and NLM may sometimes have small advantages with particular data sets, but require expert support. [Pg.508]

The factorial analysis permits to draw some conclusions on the influent factors for surface area optimisation or porous volume distributions adjustment. [Pg.486]

Obviously, this gyro design requires tightly controlled surface micromachining processes with respect to the thicknesses of the polysilicon and sacrificial layers and to stress gradients within the polysilicon rotor. However, the tolerance band widths and process capability indices available for these model parameters were not indicative of significant yield losses in a factorial analysis. [Pg.227]
