Extraction tests are used primarily in Japan and Europe, a release test is used in the United States, and standard tests have been compared based on the sources of formaldehyde present in a finished fabric (76,78—80). Finished fabric may contain free formaldehyde, or formaldehyde released from unreacted /V-methy1o1 moieties. [Pg.446]

Third Monomers. In order to achieve certain property improvements, nitrile mbber producers add a third monomer to the emulsion polymerization process. When methacrylic acid is added to the polymer stmcture, a carboxylated nitrile mbber with greatly enhanced abrasion properties is achieved (9). Carboxylated nitrile mbber carries the ASTM designation of XNBR. Cross-linking monomers, eg, divinylbenzene or ethylene glycol dimethacrylate, produce precross-linked mbbers with low nerve and die swell. To avoid extraction losses of antioxidant as a result of contact with fluids duriag service, grades of NBR are available that have utilized a special third monomer that contains an antioxidant moiety (10). Leptopinine 82 possesses the 3,4-dihydro-isoquinolin-7-ol moiety without further conjugation and was isolated as yellow powder from Hypecoum leptocarpum after several extractions with hydrochloric acid so that this alkaloid was finally isolated as a chloride (Scheme 29). The formation of a mesomeric betaine from this dihydroisoquinoline derivative is unlikely because on addition of base no significant changes of the UV spectra were observed (99P339). As the alkaloid was extracted with hexane, acetone, and ethanol, subjected to column chromatography, acidified (AcOH) and then neutralized (NaOH), the cationic form was formulated as a hydroxide salt. However, only two OH groups were detectable on H NMR spectroscopy. Only slight differences were found in the UV spectra taken in methanol [kmax (loge) = 218 (4.68), 302 (4.39), 394 (4.08) nm] and methanol+NaOH [T-max (loge) = 228 (4.66), 310 (4.39) nm]. We have studied the extractant behavior of a series of compounds containing the carbamoylmethylphosphoryl (CMP) moiety in which the basicity of the phosphoryl group and the steric bulk of the substituent group are varied (10,LL). These studies have led to the development of extractants which have combinations of substituent groups that impart to the resultant molecule improved ability to extract Am(III) from nitric acid and to withstand hydrolytic degradation. At the same time good selectivity of actinides over most fission products and favorable solubility properties on actinide loading are maintained (11). [Pg.429]

Extractants derived from the carbamoylmethylphosphoryl moiety (CMP) were studied in the phosphonate, phosphinate, and phosphine oxide classes. Our studies focused on dihexyl-N,N-diethylcarba-moylmethylphosphonate, DHDECMP, hexyl hexyl-N,N-diethylcarbamoyl-methylphosphinate, HHDECMP, and octyl(phenyl)-N,N-diisobutylcarba-moylmethylphosphine oxide, 0D[ IB]CMP0. The three types of CMP extractants were compared on the basis of nitric acid and extractant dependencies for Am(III), solubility of complexes on loading with Nd(III) and U(VI), and selectivity over fission products. On the basis of the above data two conceptual flowsheets were developed. The first flowsheet involves the extraction of all of the actinides from HLLW using 0.4 M 0D[IB]CMP0 in DEB. The second flowsheet involves the extraction of all of the actinides from dissolved spent LWR fuel using 0.8 M DHDECMP in DEB. [Pg.443]

The separation was carried out on a bonded phase LC-PCN column carrying cyanopropylmethyl moieties on the surface. Thus, in contrast to the extraction process, which appears to be based on ionic interactions with the weak ion exchange material, the LC separation appears to be based on a mixture of interactions. An extract from the soluble stromal proteins of purified and intact spinach-leaf chloroplasts was prepared by lysis of the cells in buffer, centrifugation of the suspension of broken cells, and concentration of the supernatant with removal of insoluble material. This extract contained all of the enzymes involved in the condensation of the cyclic moieties of thiamine, thiazole, and pyramine. Thus, the synthesis of thiamine in this extract following the addition of pyramine and putative precursors was a proof that the system had the possibility of building the thiazole. It was found that L-tyrosine was the donor of the C-2 carbon atom of thiazole, as in E. coli. Also, as in E. coli cells, addition of 1 -deoxy-D-f/irco-pen-tulose permitted synthesis of the thiamine structure. The relevant enzymes were localized by gel filtration in a fraction covering the 50- to 350-kDa molecular-mass range. This fraction was able to catalyze the formation of the thiazole moiety of thiamine from 0.1 -mM 1-deoxy-D-t/ireo-pentulose at the rate of 220 pmol per mg of protein per hour, in the presence of ATP and Mg2+. [Pg.277]

The TSIL used in this study has an ester moiety in its structure, which enables it to react in enzyme-catalyzed transesterification reaction. In the first part of the cycle, one of the enantiomers of the racemic alcohol is preferentially transformed into an ester of the IL-coupled acid. The other, unreacted enantiomer of the alcohol is then extracted, while the newly formed IL ester is treated with an excess of ethanol in the presence of the same enzyme.
