The supercritical fluids are effective in heterogeneous environments as well. They penetrate into porous environment loaded with additives or, used as a pure supercritical fluid to clean, dry (extract), coat, impregnate and process (e.g. extrude) a low viscosity solution. 

Solid-phase microextraction (SPME) SPME consists in the adsorption of the target compounds on a thin polymeric film deposed on the surface of a capillary fiber. The mass transfer can be achieved from liquid media in direct contact with the extracting coated fiber as well as from gaseous environments. Volatile or semivolatile herbicides existing in solid samples can be easily transferred in the gas phase on heating in closed vials, followed by trapping of the resulting vapors in the coated fiber (procedure is known as Headspace HD/SPME).

Nerin et al. (2008) developed and evaluated AO coated polypropylene (PP) film containing rosemary extract It was found that 4.0% w/w rosemary extract coated PP film inhibited the oxidation extent up to 30.1% when compared to the eontrol film at 15 days for iron (11) and 42.2% in comparison with additive-free PP film at 20 days for fatty acids from flax seed oil. Ascorbic acid has proven to be not adequate for antioxidant quantitative purposes owing to its prooxidant properties. 

The use of highly cationic polymers is a common possibility to remove the load of dissolved anionic substances by complex formation, fixation to the fibers and subsequent discharge with the freshly produced paper. Besides the dissolved anionic substances there is a variety of nondissolved, hydrophobic substances (particles) mainly coming from the raw materials, e.g. wood extractives, coating additives, adhesives. By fixation of the particles to the fibers they can be removed from the system before they build uncontrolled reactions vdth the paper stock and...

Lubricants are added to lower interfacial frictional forces between individual particles and/or between particles and fonning die surfaces to improve compaction and ejection (i.e. extraction of the pressed compact from the fonning die). Individual particle surfaces can be lubricated by an adsorbed film that produces a smoother surface and/or decreases interiDarticle attraction. Fonning (die) surfaces can be lubricated by coating with a film of low-viscosity liquid such as water or oil.

Psyllium Seed Gum. PsyUium seed gum [8036-16-9] is derived from plants of the genus Plantago several species of which are used as commercial sources. However, most current production is from Plantago ovata grown in India. The gum is located in the coat which is removed by cracking. The gum is then extracted with boiling water and separated from the insoluble residue by filtration. It consists of mixtures of both neutral and acidic polysaccharides, the composition of which is species dependent (66). 

Miscellaneous Applications. PEIs and their derivatives ate used as cementation auxihaties in cmde oil exploration (459), and for breaking cmde oil emulsions (460) in cmde oil extraction. Seed coatings of water-soluble copolymers containing polyethyleneimine have been developed (461). Polyethyleneimine derivatives have positive photoresist properties (462) amidated polyethyleneimines improve the flow properties of cement (463) and with few exceptions, A/-acyla2iddines act as chemical sterilisers for insects (464). 

MIBK is a highly effective separating agent for metals from solutions of their salts and is used in the mining industries to extract plutonium from uranium, niobium from tantalum, and zirconium from hafnium (112,113). MIBK is also used in the production of specialty surfactants for inks (qv), paints, and pesticide formulations, examples of which are 2,4,7,9-tetramethyl-5-decyn-4,7-diol and its ethoxylated adduct. Other appHcations include as a solvent for adhesives and wax/oil separation (114), in leather (qv) finishing, textile coating, and as a denaturant for ethanol formulations. 

The other main natural binder is protein that is prepared by extraction from soy meal (100). Casein [9000-71 -0] once a large-volume paper-coating binder, has markedly declined in use because of its high price and susceptibiHty to microbial attack.
