Electronic connectors may connect internally or externally. Internal connections may be between a component and a printed circuit board or wire (Fig. la) a printed circuit board and a wire or another printed circuit board which is in a chassis (Fig. lb) and between chassis in the same cabinet (Fig. [Pg.23]

Interna] and External Seals Mechanical seals are classified broadly as internal or external. Internal seals (Fig. 10-112) are installed with all seal components exposed to the fluid sealed. The advantages of this arrangement are (1) the ability to seal against high pressure, since the hydrostatic force is normally in the same direction as the spring force (2) protection of seal parts from external mechanical damage and (3) reduction in the shaft length required. [Pg.941]

Two types of initiators are internal and external. Internal initiators result from failures within a plant or the plant s support utilities. Thus, vessel rupture, human error, cooling failure, and loss of offsite power are internal events. All others are external events earthquakes, tornados, fires (external or internal), and floods (external or internal). Event trees can be used to analyze either type of initiator. [Pg.111]

Regulatory QSAR models are more demanding because of their relationship with the law, which introduces requirements, some internal to the QSAR model process, others external. Internally the model needs a high level of quality control. Externally, the model has to comply with, and be suited for, the regulatory use. [Pg.84]

Model Validation Validation of the calibration model is crucial before prospective application. Two types of validation schemes can be adopted internal and external. Internal validation, or cross-validation, is used when the number of calibration samples is limited. In cross-validation, a small subset of calibration data is withheld from the model building step. After the model is tested on these validation spectra, a different subset of calibration data is withheld and the b vector is recalculated. Various strategies can be employed for grouping spectra for calibration and validation. For example, a single sample is withheld in a leave-one-out scheme, and the calibration and validation process is repeated as many times as the number of samples in the calibration data set. In general, leave- -out cross-validation can be implemented with n random samples chosen from a pool of calibration data. [Pg.339]

Attacks on automobiles are divided into two types internal and external. Internal bombs are attached to the vehicle s interior or exterior. Exterior bombs are placed in the vicinity of the auto (for example, in the car next to it] or in an area along its route (for example, a road mine). [Pg.82]

Depending upon whether or not the reference compound is present in the same solution as the measured substance, the method of referencing is denoted as internal or external. Internal referencing, when the reference is in the same solution as the measured substrate, eliminates the effect of magnetic susceptibility, xvi both reference and substrate are in the same magnetic field. It does not eliminate, however, any of the many possible specific... [Pg.228]
