Expression rolls

Frequently expression rolls were combined with an upright or horizontal pug mill or with an inclined-fitted auger extruder, so as to utilize the mixing and homogenising effect of these machines, which of course could not be achieved by the expression rolls (Fig. 7). The first vertical expression... [Pg.95]

In 1977 another expression rolls machine known as the Elephant emerged. This adopted a new ceramic extrusion method utilizing electrophoresis following the Elephant principle. It cannot be formally classified as an extruder, rather being a machine for shaping by means of precipitating slurry in an electric field (electrophoresis) , yet the unusual features of this special process do in fact fulfil the requirements of column extrusion. The process could also be termed the extrusion of slurry The physical phenomenon of electrophoresis has been known since the 19 century, when Reuss discovered that particles suspended in water... [Pg.98]

Crushing Rolls. A unit frequently used for the size reduction of brick clays, etc. Two steel rolls are arranged horizontally and adjacent, with a gap between them of a uniform width equivalent to the maximum size of particle allowable in the crushed product the rolls are rotated in opposition, and sometimes at different speeds, so that the clay is carried downwards and nipped between the approaching surfaces of the rolls (cf. EXPRESSION rolls). [Pg.79]

Roll-up. The principal means by which oily soil is removed is probably roU-up. The appHcable theory is simply the theory of wetting. In briefest outline, a droplet of oily soil attached to the substrate forms at equiUbrium a definite contact angle at the oil-sohd-air boundary line. This contact angle (Fig. 4) is the result of the interaction of interfacial forces in the three phase boundaries of the system. These interfacial forces, expressed in mN/m(= dyn/cm), or interfacial free energy values expressed in mj/m (erg/cm s) are conveniently designated 1SA iSlj subscripts relate to the Hquid-air,... [Pg.534]

Inflammation. Figure 1 Sequence of events in the recruitment of leukocytes in postcapillary venules adjacent to injured tissue. At the site of lesion, diverse reactive substances stimulate the endothelium to produce inflammatory cytokines, chemoattractants and other inflammatory mediators. The cytokine-activated endothelium expresses adhesion molecules that lead to the low affinity interactions between leukocytes and endothelium, which is mediated by selectins and described as rolling. Subsequently integrins mediate the firm adhesion of leukocytes, which allows emigration of the cells from venules into the interstitial compartment. Activated mast cells, PMNs and macrophages secrete cytokines (TNFa), lipid mediators (LTB4) and other inflammatory players (histamine, NO). [Pg.628]

Joseph Stone was a long-haul truck driver, age twenty-two, who lived off-the-road in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada. His sleeper-truck was a Freightliner which pulled into Avondale Mills too late for unloading on January 5, 2005. Stone, also known as Rolling Stone, his CB radio name, drove for J.W. Express located in Deauville, Quebec. He called his girlfriend at home in Quebec to tell her he would be held up for the night, and then went to bed in his truck. Runaway chlorine gas killed Joseph Stone by inhalation while he slept on Leitner Street in Graniteville, and he may never have known what killed him. [Pg.39]
