Roll coating is widely used for uniform, whether flat or cylindrical, surfaces including fiber bundles. The printing of newspapers is conducted at very high speeds, often reaching 3000 feet per minute. All three printing processes utilize similar quality newsprint which, essentially, is made of groundwood or thermomechanical pulp. The first type of roller found in most laser printers is the feed roller, or paper pickup roller (Figure 7.6). This D-shaped roller, when activated, rotates against the paper and pushes one sheet into the printer. Laser printers today run at copier speeds. Because of this, their most common problem is paper jams. Paper can get jammed in a printer for several reasons. A number of reports show how each parameter in the FDM process contributes to the quality (less distortion) and functionality of printed parts. The complexity of the 3D printing process arises from the number of variables which are used to define the operation of the 3D printer machine and the material.
