Chapter 1 is devoted to exploring strategies involved in organic synthesis. It seeks to explain concepts like retrosynthetic analysis, atom economy, umpolung approach, click chemistry and asymmetric synthesis. On the basis of interesting and relevant examples, protection and deprotection of different functional groups are explained and the most probable mechanism is also mentioned for important reactions. 

Recently, we explored strategies for binding spiropyran moieties to structured brushes grafted from ETFE and Teflon (PTFE) surfaces in order to obtain light-sensitive structured polymer surfaces [18]. We focused on post-polymerization modification of grafted brush structures because this strategy increases the flexibility with respect to the optimization of the concentration of spiropyran moieties in the brushes. Moreover, the tedious synthesis and purification steps of spiropyran—monomer conjugates are circumvented. 

At the same time combinatory explosion is avoided which is a problem in computer implementation, and the "getting-lost-in-hyper-space" phenomenon is minimized on account of the fact that scaffolding is fundamental to objective exploration. As to the form of presentation, if one hopes to maintain concentration on the objective it is preferable to adopt a graphic interface. If it is more important to keep constant track of the cognitive path followed and the perspectives of this path then a network interface will be preferable. In the first case the predominant exploration strategy is browsing in the second it will be navigating. 

Recent work has indicated two possible directions for such research to work on the initial representations (structure the task better) and introduce the learning of efficient exploration strategies. 

In this chapter we provide an overview of the basis, technology, and surface phenomena of PBS. It is hoped that this overview will stimulate interest in exploring strategies to develop PBS with desirable ecological and toxicological properties. It is expected that increased environmental awareness among consumers will drive the development of biological methods for the manufacture of industrial-scale PBS. 

Several studies have been done to explore strategies to reduce the initial impedance electrode sites or to limit early and late reactive responses or in order to minimize electrode-tissue interface impedance, including electrochemical deposition of conducting polymers on the surface of recording sites [3, 7, 101, 113] and systematic release of antiinflammatory drags to the site of implantation [109, 114]. 

A detailed description of screening methods used in FBLG is beyond the scope of this chapter many FBLG reviews are available [34-39]. We will just briefly outline some of the assays used for fi agment hit identification before exploring strategies and tactics employed in hit optimization.
