Experiment Exploratory study

With ethyl bromide as solvent a brief, exploratory study [77] showed that the rates and DPs were more irreproducible than with other alkyl halides, and this was ascribed, at least partly, to the relatively high dissociation constant of ethyl bromide to ethylene and hydrogen bromide. No evidence was obtained whether ethyl bromide itself is a co-catalyst, and the putative co-catalyst in the reaction was residual water and possibly traces of t-BuBr formed from HBr and isobutene. Experiments with [C4H8] = 0.11-0.92 mole/1, [TiCl4] (2.7-11.2) x 103 mole/1, T = -38° to -103° showed that EDP = 5.5 0.5 kcal/ mole that below about -60° the DP is almost independent of monomer concentration and that kjkp = 2 x 10 4 at -63° and 8 x 10"5 at -71°.

Nonclinical laboratory study means in vivo or in vitro experiments in which test articles are studied prospectively in test systems under laboratory conditions to determine their safety. The term does not include studies utilizing human subjects or clinical studies or field trials in animals. The term does not include basic exploratory studies carried out to determine whether a test article has any potential utility or to determine physical or chemical characteristics of a test article. 

Study means any experiment at one or more test sites, in which a test substance is studied in a test system under laboratory conditions or in the environment to determine or help predict its effects, metabolism, product performance (efficacy studies only as required by 40 CFR 158.640) environmental and chemical fate, persistence, and residue, or other characteristics in humans, other living organisms, or media. The term study does not include basic exploratory studies carried out to determine whether a test substance or a test method has any potential utility. 

An exploratory study was carried out with respect to the performance of a copper fuel additive in combination with monolithic wall flow filters for the removal of soot firom diesel exhaust gas. Cordierite filters, copper coated cordierite filters, and silicon carbide filters were studied. Model experiments have been performed to investigate the influence of contact between soot and catalyst on the oxidation rate. 

Applying the idea of using multiple quantum coherence to correlate protons has also been explored. Mated and Freeman [60] reported the first experimental demonstration of proton double quantum correlated spectroscopy. The Fi axis in these experiments is used to present H chemical shift in the usual fashion. In contrast, the Fj axis is used for the double quantum frequency axis. Protons correlated to one another via double quantum coherence will exhibit a response in Fj at the algebraic sum of the offsets of the coupled resonances relative to the transmitter frequency. A scant few apphcations have been reported including an exploratory study of strychnine (2) [61] and the structural characterization of the marine natural product plumericin [62],... 

The main objective of our exploratory study was to map experiences from applying ISO 11064 and CRIOP to CC design in fiiU scale industrial projects, e.g. construction of new offshore installations (oH platforms, FPSOs) and onshore process installations as well as major CC modifications of the same. The electrochemically induced creation of the Pt(lll)-(12xl2)-Na adlayer, manifest by STM at low Na coverages, is strongly corroborated by the corresponding catalyst potential Uwr and work function O response to galvanostatic transients in electrochemical promotion experiments utilizing polycrystalline Pt films exposed to air and deposited on (T -AbCb. 3637 Early exploratory STM studies had shown that the surface of these films is largely composed of low Miller index Pt(lll) planes.5... 

Consequently, these studies of boranes have led us into many areas, both theoretical and practical. There is no evidence that it is any more difficult now than it was 35 years ago to uncover interesting new areas of study. Indeed, our experience indicates the reverse to be true. I can only advise those beginning a research career that it has been my experience that optimism is an essential ingredient of fruitful exploratory research. 

Some exploratory experiments with ethyl vinyl ether showed that it polymerised too rapidly for our method to be useful. The polymerisation of 2-methyl butene-2 had a manageable rate but the results showed inconsistencies which we did not have time to resolve, as this was the last monomer to be studied. 

In an exploratory experiment, 13 different powder materials were tested in a FFB ACE unit. Most of the results were unremarkable except for three catalysts a low Z/M commercial maximum distillate catalyst (the same LZM catalyst used in the pilot riser experiment), a spray dried low surface area silica (inert) and the minimum aromatics breakthrough (MAB) catalyst. The inert material was included in the study to represent thermal cracking. The catalysts were steam deactivated in the fixed bed steamer prior to testing. Catalysts and the VGO-B feed properties are displayed in Tables 2.3 and 2.1, respectively. LCO aromatics were measured with 2D GC. Figures 2.7 through 2.9 illustrate the main results. 

This article discusses exploratory work that was interrupted early in 1966 when the Food and Drug Administration, as a strategy in combating the illicit-use problem, declared a moratorium on research with normal human subjects. In view of the preliminary nature of the work, it would not under ordinary circumstances have been submitted for publication. The research approached travel motivation through a two-phased process - exploratory interviews and a major survey study. The interview phase of the study is reported in detail in Lee and Pearce (2002). Intensive interviews with a small number of travellers chosen because of their markedly different travel experience and life-cycle phases were conducted. The small sample consisted of Australian-based residents.
