Exemplary Cases

There have been numerous experimental as well as theoretical studies dealing with the structural and thermochemical properties of cationic silicon hydrides, Si Hm+ , and a detailed discussion of these species would certainly exceed the limited space available. We will therefore confine ourselves to the discussion of only a few exemplary cases. For further information on Si-ion thermochemistry the reader is referred to several reviews on the experimental2-4 as well as computational5 determination of thermodynamic properties of silicon-containing ions. 

The thermochemistry of silicon-containing anions has very recently been compiled in an excellent review by Damrauer and Hankin4, as well as in an earlier work by Damrauer3. In these reviews the authors give a detailed introduction into the experimental techniques as well as the cycles used to obtain thermodynamic data from negative-ion gas-phase chemistry. We will therefore confine ourselves here to the discussion of a few exemplary cases, and for a more detailed overview the reader is referred to the above-mentioned publications and the literature cited therein.

The double allylation of 68 to give diene 69 was reported by Hanna and Michaut (Scheme 52). In this exemplary case, RCM leads to excellent yields of the oxygen-bridged tricycle 70. 

One clear piece of evidence for surface character-property relationships lies in the observation that particulate catalysts with the same composition, but different crystal habit, have different reactivities. This phenomenon, sometimes referred to as a catalytic anisotropy or a structure-sensitive catalytic reaction, has been observed in a variety of Mo, V, and W containing materials [1]. Because the catalytic anisotropy of a-MoOj has been studied in relatively greater depth, this exemplary case is described below [1-10]. 

An exemplary case is represented by the preparation of a high-surface-area fuel cell catalyst supported on a graphitic carbon such as Ketjenblack (KB) (Table 1).

When studying the chemical composition of atmospheric precipitation it is possible to assess the pollution of the atmosphere, and consequently, to evaluate the ecological conditions of the region. For the evaluation of the present state of the atmosphere for the exemplary cases of Almalyk, Tashkent and Chirchik towns, the composition of emissions, using statistic reports, as well as seasonal dynamics of emissions has been investigated. The data from systematic observations of the atmospheric pollution in these towns (data of observations made at three stationary posts) were generalized. 

Although the nature of seven-coordinate compounds is of intrinsic interest, perhaps of greater significance is the role of expanded coordination spheres as intermediates in the chemistry of octahedral complexes. The preparation of the thermodynamically unfavorable tmn5-Mo(CO)2-(diphos)2 isomer (5) via a seven-coordinate intermediate is an exemplary case of stereochemical control. Plausible seven-coordinate intermediates in the reactions of olefins with pentacarbonyltungstenphenylcarbene (6) can exert stereochemical control of the product distributions.

The drop of correlation between m and a at higher n should allow HOD IMS to distinguish isomeric or isobaric ions better than DT IMS or FAIMS of equal resolving power (R). For the exemplary case of protonated Leu and He (3.1.7), the values of K (in N2 at room T) are 1.618 and 1.632 cm /(V s), and the 1% difference barely permits partial separation at the highest R 150 of present DT IMS systems. Under same conditions, the ai values (4.24 and 4.06 x 10 Td ) differ by a greater 4%, which still just suffices for incomplete separation by FAIMS of highest current resolution (3.1.7). In contrast, the difference of 560% between 02 values (0.12 and 0.79 x 10 ° Td ) should enable full separation even with a rudimentary HOD IMS capability.Same pattern for deprotonated Leu and He is clear from the data in Table 3.2. 

Although Soxhiet is nowadays chiefly remembered for his invention of the apparatus that bears his name, his life and work remain an exemplary case of the application of creative chemistry to the improvement of human health.
