The one character field value,, denotes a Required Reply Field. This indicates to the recipient of the exchange file that the specified field value is currently unknown as is required upon reply by the recipient. This is used to clarify the minimum set of data fields which are required by the sender.

GENERAL NOTE This table is composed of the applicable fields from Appendix Q, ANSI/API 610, Centrifugal Pumps for Petroleum, Heavy-Duty Chemical and Gas Industry Services, with the addition of data fields from the Process Industry Practices (PIP) specification that completely define necessary data for the electronic exchange of ASME B73 pump data. In the United States, public companies are required to report their financial performance quarterly, with an annual report required at the end of the fiscal year. Non-U.S. companies with a stock trading on a U.S. stock exchange must also file quarterly and annual statements. Even foreign, public companies not on a U.S. exchange file annual reports for use by investors, analysts, and employees. Annual and quarterly reports are often found on the companies websites listed under investor relations. In the United States, these reports are available from the Securities and Exchange Commission (http //www.sec.gov) at no charge. Financial information on private companies is much more difficult to find. Users must depend on disclosure by the private company or rely on primary research vendors for information.

Document management and provision features are needed, so a capability to organize exchanged files in a strucmred way (e.g., a by project and/or by exchange partner) will be required. In addition a publish/subscribe mechanism will be helpful in order to keep recipients informed about new or updated information. Updated files need to be managed by the exchange platform in a way that they are only available for download in their latest version and outdated versions are optionally archived. 

All the information was available for the students via the e-learning system at the UA, where group areas were created, allowing each group to save and exchange files, e-mails and short messages. 

The framework has been developed to support different kinds of testing tools. One of the main concerns that has led to its development was the minimization of the effort needed for the adaptation of existing tool to the framework. To fit this constraint, each testing tool is seen as a different application that communicates with the framework by an interface with several optional fields. Furthermore, the interface includes the possibility to exchange files to support any kind of results produced by the testing tools. 

The formatting of a database involves the creation of several types of files that are manipulated with specialized software. A source file containing raw analytical data is converted to a library file by reducing noise, eliminating unimportant data and compression. Associated exchange files enable data to be transferred in a standard format such as JCAMP/DX for spectrometric data and JCAMP/CS for chemical structures. 

Efforts are currently being undertaken to standardize the MIME types of a number of popular structure and spectral information exchange file formats. Even without the official blessing of the standardization organizations, the proposed chemical MIME data types are already used in a consensual fashion. The article includes an extensive table of the important chemical MIME format identifiers and their corresponding file formats and typical extensions. 

The exchange file format MIF (molecular information file, see below) can code stereochemistry using stereovertex lists like those discussed above. 

The CGM standard is gaining acceptance, but the complexity of the specification has led to a problem of incomplete implementation. There is a real tendency for vendors to ignore the implementation of those elements which are deemed to be so complex that no-one would be using them. Today, among the dozens of software packages which purport to support metafiles, many are incapable of exchanging files because their implementations differ.
