Excel commands

Figure 2-3 shows an example spreadsheet. Cells A3 C4 contain the elements of the 2x3 matrix A. In order to perform the matrix transposition cells E3 F5, which will contain the result, A1, have to be pre-selected. Next =TRANSPOSE(A3 C4) is typed on the Excel command line followed by the SHIFT+CTRL+ENTERl key combination. [Pg.11]

The default Excel 2000 workbook contains three worksheets, but you can add or remove sheets. Three Excel commands permit you to add or remove sheets from a workbook. The Delete Sheet command in the Edit menu permanently removes the active sheet from the workbook. To add a worksheet to a workbook, use the Worksheet command in the Insert menu (you can also insert a chart sheet). To move or copy sheets within a workbook, or from one workbook to another, use the Move or Copy Sheet... command (Figure 1-10) in the Edit menu. [Pg.16]

Although there are thousands of different organic reactions, they can be explained by mechanisms that are a combination of relatively few pathways for electron flow. The following are twelve of the most common generic electron flow pathways. These pathways should become a very important part of your mechanistic vocabulary. You will need to have an excellent command of these dozen pathways to be able to combine them to postulate a reasonable mechanism for almost any reaction. [Pg.180]

To solve this example you first need the mean and standard deviation. Use the Excel commands =AVE RAGE (range) and =STDEV(ranpe) which give 7.14 and 3.96 for the mean and standard deviation, respectively. [Pg.80]

Work in the laboratory was Dr. Thompson s first love, but he had an excellent command of the literature of carbohydrate chemistry, together with a flair for direct, concise scientific writing, which he used when he could be induced to leave the laboratory. With M. L. Wolfrom, he wrote a number of book chapters, notably those on esters and glycosides in the second edition of Pigman s book. His contributions to the series Methods in Carbohydrate Chemistry were particularly prolific. Most of these procedures were developed from his own laboratory work, and were written shortly before his death. [Pg.5]

The calculation of Fjo would be accomplished as before, using the Excel commands = B3 + C3. Then the remaining Fj values would be found by duplicating the formula for all subsequent cells. [Pg.2333]

An aptitude test is designed to assess students capability for a particular subject and the top 5% students are defined as having excellent command. From previous experience, it is known that the distribution of the scores, 9, of all the excellent students follows a log-normal distribution ... [Pg.17]

By the Bayes theorem in Equation (2.10), one can update the probability of a student with excellent command of the subject given his/her test score ... [Pg.18]

Because of the excellent properties of its vulcanisates under conditions not demanding high levels of heat and oil resistance, natural rubber commands a premium price over SBR, with which it vies for top place in the global tonnage... [Pg.288]

In addition to understanding the PSM system and its implementation, in-hou e trainers need skills development training to enable tiiem to fulfill their roles effectively. Everyone has had the dismal experience of listening to speakers or teachers whose command of their subject may be excellent, but who are incapable of conveying it in a useful, much less interesting, manner. To help avoid this, be selective in recruiting in-house trainer candidates the best people for this task have confidence, enthusiasm, and an ability to communicate well. [Pg.170]

As already stated above, the database has been developed using ISIS software. The program operation is very simple, and about 30 min to learn the particular commands of this structure-searching program. ISIS provides both storage and retrieval of chemical structures. It is also possible to store text and numeric data into database entries. Because molecular structures are searchable in many ways, ISIS software is an excellent tool for exploiting data, and not simply archiving it. [Pg.98]

MATLAB is a formidable mathematics analysis package. We provide an introduction to the most basic commands that are needed for our use. We make no attempts to be comprehensive. We do not want a big, intimidating manual. The beauty of MATLAB is that we only need to know a tiny bit to get going and be productive. Once we get started, we can pick up new skills quickly with MATLAB s excellent on-line help features. We can only learn with hands-on work these notes are written as a "walk-through" tutorial—you are expected to enter the commands into MATLAB as you read along. [Pg.216]

The Wegstein method is a secant method applied to g(x) = x - Fix). In Microsoft Excel, roots are found by using Goal Seek or Solver. Assign one cell to be x, put the equation for/(x) in another cell, and let Goal Seek or Solver find the value of x that makes the equation cell zero. In MATLAB, the process is similar except that a function (m-file) is defined and the command fzeroCf .xO) provides the solution x, starting from the initial guess xO. [Pg.44]

Computer Methods These methods are easily programmed in a spreadsheet program such as Microsoft Excel. In MATLAB, the trapezoid rule can be calculated by using the command trapz(x,y), where x is a vector of x values and y is a vector of values /(%.). Alternatively, use the commands... [Pg.48]

The sample mean and sample standard deviation are obtained by using Microsoft Excel with the commands AVERAGE(B2 B7) and STDEV(B2 B7) when the observations are in cells B2 to B7. [Pg.72]

The normal probability distribution function can be obtained in Microsoft Excel by using the NORMDIST function and supplying the desired mean and standard deviation. The cumulative value can also be determined. In MATLAB, the corresponding command is randn. [Pg.72]

This example is solved by using Microsoft Excel. Put the data into columns A and B as shown, using rows 1 through 11. Then the commands... [Pg.85]

In Matlab the plus (+) and minus (-) operators cannot be directly applied to equations that involve vectors or matrices of different dimensions. In order to perform the same operation as in the former Excel example, column vector b ,3 must be replicated three times to match the dimensions of A. For this, the Matlab command repmat can be used. [Pg.15]

To import the data resulting from the FOURIER command (as shown in Table 8.3) into a spreadsheet, such as Excel, first, open the output (.out) file. Highlight and copy the data you need in the. out file, and open Excel. After Excel opens, paste the contents into the spreadsheet. The next step should be to pull down the DATA menu and select the TEXT TO COLUMNS command. Follow the steps to convert the pasted data into... [Pg.241]

LINEST(B2 B5,A2 A5,TRUE,TRUE) appears once again in the formula line. Now press CONTROL+SHIFT+ENTER on a PC or COMMAND(3 )+RETURN on a Mac. Excel dutifully prints out a matrix in cells E3 F5. Write labels around the block to indicate what is in each cell. The slope and intercept are on the top line. The second line contains sm and sh. Cell F5 contains sv and cell E5 contains a quantity called R2, which is defined in Equation 5-2 and is a measure of the goodness of fit of the data to the line. The closer R2 is to unity, the better the fit. [Pg.69]
