Erasing

Imaging plates are exposed similar to radiographic films. They are read out by a LASER-scanner to a digital image without any developing process. After optical erasing of the virtual picture the same IP can be used cyclic up to more than 1000 times. The life time is limited by the mechanical stability of the IP s. An IP consists of a flexible polymer carrier which is coated with the sensitive layer. This layer is covered with a thin transparent protective foil. 

In addition to the above 4 components a substantial part of the imaging system is the image eraser, which enables the multiple use of an IP.

Sin ce the Molecu lar Dynamics Results window con lain ing plots is a true window, an image of it alone can be captured into the clipboard or a file using Top-level in the File/Preferences/Setiip Image dialog box. Th is captured image, in addition to shtnving the molecular dynamics plots, shows the Restart and Done buttons, etc. If you on ly want the plots, you can erase the details of the box with a paint program, such as Microsoft Windows Pain thru sh which comes with Microsoft Windows. 

Using PCMODEL, draw H2O. Minimize using the MM3 force field. Save to the filename water.inp (or some such) in the GAMESS format. Copy to your GAMESS directory. Copy to filename INPUT and be sure that PUNCH has been renamed to PUNCH.OLD or has been erased entirely. Run using GAMESS.EXE > FILENAME.OUT. The INPUT file... 

Beeause the level with this L and S quantum numbers eontains (2L+1)(2S+1) states with Ml and Ms quantum numbers running from -L to L and from -S to S, respeetively, one must remove from the original box this number of produet states. To do so, one simply erases from the box one entry with eaeh sueh Ml and Ms value. Aetually, sinee the box need only show those entries with non-negative Ml and Ms values, only these entries need be explieitly deleted. In the example, this amounts to deleting nine produet states with Ml, Ms values of 1,1 1,0 1,-1 0,1 0,0 0,-1 -1,1 -1,0 -1,-1.

The Novosibirsk Institute of Organic Chemistry has developed a method for computer-aided retrieval of stmctural information from H-nmr using its database of 50,000 spectra (72). Eraser WUHams Ltd. (Scientific Systems) has special software to search its E-nmr database (73). Protein nmr data have been compiled into a relational database at the University of Wisconsin (74).

CD-R (CD-recordable) is a writable, nonerasable disk, also called CD-WORM or CD-WO (CD-write once). Permanent marks are produced by a focused laser beam. The definition of the CD-R format and of the erasable—rewritable EOD /MO-R format is put down in the Orange Book (Philips/Sony). 

Erasable optical disk (EOD) systems, on the other hand, are challenging classic magnetic media in some areas of appHcation, primarily magnetic tape and the hard disk, but mostly optical media complement magnetic media. 

To erase information by the transition amorphous — crystalline, the amorphous phase of the selected area must be crystallized by annealing. This is effected by illumination with a low power laser beam (6—15 mW, compared to 15—50 mW for writing/melting), thus crystallizing the area. This crystallization temperature is above the glass-transition point, but below the melting point of the material concerned (Eig. 15, Erase).
