Equipment and use

The hammer survey or chain drag ( on decks) is usually quicker, cheaper and more accurate than the other alternatives such as radar, ultrasonic or infrared thermography. However, these techniques do have their uses, for instance in large-scale surveys of bridge decks (rada and infrared thermography), or=f waterproof membranes or other concrete defects (ultrasonics and radar). They are discussed later in this section. 

The delamination survey with a hammer is often conducted at the same time as the visual survey. Hollow sounding areas are marked directly in to the surface of the structure with a suitable permanent or temporary marker and recorded on the visual survey pro forma.

Distillers employ a somewhat unique process to make various products and have tailored approaches to control and reduce ethyl carbamate to their own particular process. Some of the methods used are the use of copper packing in the rectifying section of stills, increased frequency of cleaning stills and other equipment, and using a cool-down period in the cleaning procedure. Increased rectification also reduces ethyl carbamate. Keeping the system clean is critical to minimising ethyl carbamate. 

Risk assessment applies to all activities in the laboratory, including lifting heavy equipment and use of furnaces, for example, whether or not any hazardous substances are involved. The five basic steps in risk assessment are 1. Look for the hazards.

Subsequent phases could be used to eventually reach optimum conditions. Even then, it would be advantageous to continue EVOP, so that process variables could be adjusted to remedy the effects of such changes as deteriorating equipment and use of alternative raw materials.

A new methodology designed to optimize both the planning of preventive maintenance and the amount of resources needed to perform maintenance in a process plant is presented. The methodology is based on the use of a Montecarlo simulation to evaluate the expected cost of maintenance as well as the expected economic loss, an economical indicator for maintenance performance. The Montecarlo simulation describes different failure modes of equipment and uses the prioritization of maintenance supplied, the availability of labour and spare parts. A Genetic algorithm is used for optimisation. The well-known Tennessee Eastman Plant problem is used to illustrate the results. 

Many of the complications of opiate use, especially intravenous use, are related not only to the drug itself, but also to varying purity, contaminants, and techniques of administration such as dirty equipment and use of shared needles. Overdoses, anaphylactic reactions... 

A room or area with defined environmental control of particulate and microbial contamination, constructed, equipped and used in such a way as to reduce the introduction, generation and retention of contaminants within the area. 

Cold press molding represent compression molding that involves only a moderate investment in equipment and using a lower-powered press than with large series processes.
