Two-layered GRPs for copper clad laminates are obtained with one layer consisting of the three-component system (e.g. BPA/DC, BMI, brominated epoxide resin, Zn octoate and triethylenediamine in methylethylketone). The other layer has the usual epoxy matrix (brominated epoxide resin, dicyandiamide as a hardener and 2-ethyl-4-methylimidazole as curing accelerator) [119]. As similar two-layered laminate contains BPA/DC, BMI, epoxynovolak resin, Zn acetate and triethylenediamine in the first layer and BPA/DC only with the same catalysts in the second layer [120]. [Pg.55]

In electronic encapsulation applications, epoxy derivatives of novolacs containing meta-bromo phenol have exhibited substantially better physical and performance properties compared to the conventional tetrabromo bisphenol-A epoxies and brominated epoxy novolacs. The meta-bromo phenol moiety contributes the expected improvements in thermal and hydrolytic stability to the formulation while providing fire retardancy properties (13). [Pg.397]

Later, McPherson (39) demonstrated that the Inclusion of a CTBN/liquid epoxy adduct enhanced both the flexibility and adhesion of a dimer acid flexibllized epoxy/brominated epoxy mixture when cured with a combination of chlorendic and nadic-methyl anhydrides. With an epoxy-glass laminate as substrate, such mixtures were coated at 0.5-2.0 mils thickness, cured, sensitized and copper plated (1.5 mils) by an electroless process. 90 peel testing (2 inches/mln. rate, 25 C) gave 14.0 pli peel force where 5.0 pli is considered normal. [Pg.9]

There is very little information about halogenated aliphatic and cycloaliphatic epoxy compounds. Brominated epoxy compounds were prepared by the addition of Br to the cyclohexenyl double bond in a diglycidyl ether in mild conditions (Scheme 60) [39]. [Pg.81]

In a PRCB factory, Bruze and Almgren (1989) found 6 workers of the 19 tested were sensitized to epoxy resin. During the production of manufactured articles (made of copper sheets and rolled fiberglass soaked with epoxy brominated resins), subjects were exposed mainly to such nonpolymerized resins and to powders from fiberglass tissues soaked with resins. [Pg.132]

As a component of non-diglycidyl ether-of-bisphenol-A epoxy resins, brominated epoxy resin caused contact dermatitis in a cleaner of worksites in a condenser factory, in which condensers were filled with a mixture made of an epoxy resin. [Pg.1132]

Synthesis of (A) started with the combination of 2,4,6-trimethylphenol and allyl bromide to give the or/Ao-allyl dienone. Acid-catalyzed rearrangement and oxidative bydroboration yielded the dienone with a propanol group in porlactone ring were irons in the product as expected (see p. 275). Treatment with aqueous potassium hydroxide gave the epoxy acid, which formed a crystalline salt with (R)-l-(or-naphthyl)ethylamine. This was recrystallized to constant rotation. [Pg.319]

TetrabromobisphenolA. TBBPA is the largest volume reactive flame retardant. Its primary use is in epoxy resins (see Epoxyresins) where it is reacted with the bis-glycidyl ether of bisphenol A to produce an epoxy resin having 20—25% bromine. This brominated resin is typically sold as a 80% solution in a solvent. TBBPA is also used in the production of epoxy oligomers which are used as additive flame retardants. [Pg.470]
