Epichlorohydrin polymers

Modifications of epichlorohydrin elastomers by radical-induced graft polymeri2ation have been reported. Incorporated monomers include styrene and acrylonitrile, styrene, maleic anhydride, vinyl acetate, methyl methacrylate, and vinyHdene chloride (81), acryHc acid (82), and vinyl chloride (81,83,84). When the vinyl chloride-modified epichlorohydrin polymers were used as additives to PVC, impact strength was improved (83,84).

The graft polymerization process also applies to other backbone polymers, such as rubbery ethylene-propylene copolymers and amorphous epichlorohydrin polymers. Further work is necessary to bring the resulting products to industrial maturity and to develop their applications.

Polymer-phase spectrometry, where Co (II) ions were adsorbed by P-cyclodextrin epichlorohydrin polymer (P-CDEP) functionalized with l-(2-pyridyzalo)-2-naphtol (PAN) was also successfully used for the determination of micro amounts of cobalt in foods [27].
